Pineapple
Irregular and course with an off-putting plume,
Which above the peak of the fruit doth loom,
Once sawn, as wood, with sweat and persistence,
Can be exposed and explored, like my own dazed existence.
And once this skin is broken through,
A fruit can be reached: sweet, soft and new.
The taste of this fruit is surprising and whole,
The musky essence and substance, joys the human soul.
A lovely metaphysical(ish) poem by, once again, Josh Halstead. This poem, inspired by the poet's experiencing the eponymous fruit, was created in a startling short space of time. Contrastingly, its poignancy and deliciously metaphorical language ensured that this poem will remain with me for a great deal longer. Again, thanks to the poet.
