About Me
About Me
Born in Memphis in 1952, Michael Joseph (Mike) Scinto has never forgotten his Volunteer State roots. East Tennessee is where much of his leisure family time is spent today. His parents, tied to military operations, moved with Mike and his brother to the Dayton, Ohio area in 1964 and, aside from Mike's tour of duty in the United States Air Force as a Military Training Instructor in the early 1970's, the Gem City has remained his home. Mike's life is touched on all sides by the military. Mike's father was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. His mother met his father at a U.S. Army hospital in Memphis where he was recovering from Malaria. Kathy, Mike's bride of 32 years, is the daughter of a Vietnam War fighter pilot, and retired officer in the United States Air Force. Her mother, a nurse by training, was an active officer's wife while Kathy and her siblings were growiing up around the world.

Mike and Kathy are the proud parents of two wonderful children;a son age 15 and a daughter now 10.

Mike's childhood dream of being a broadcaster began in high school as a disc jockey and the lead singer of a rock band. The journey continued when he broadcast the first on-air show on "Pollution-Free Radio WWSU" at Wright State University in 1977. He quickly moved on to WBLY Radio in Springfield that same year for his first "real job" in radio.

In 1978 Mike's path for the next three decades became clear as he became one of the "Talkmasters" at one of the best known local talk radio stations in America, People-Power WAVI in Dayton.

That radio career, as well as a stint as host of a daily TV talk show on WHIO-TV, Channel 7 in the late 1980's, has continued to this day with some call letter changes and different operating shifts along the way but, by his choice, maintaining Dayton as his base of operations. He currently serves as the conservative White talk show host on one of the oldest, and most famous, Black radio stations in America, WDAO. While numerous oportunities presented themselves, Mike always had strong feelings about putting down roots in a community. He also pinch-hits for a former Daytonian now listed as the eighth most infuential talk radio host in America, Mike Gallager. The Mike Gallagher Show reaches millions weekly around the nation and the globe. Scinto also has appeared as a guest contributor on the most watched cable news operation, the Fox News Channel.

*Mike doesn't call his radio show a career, but rather a passion. While he is a commentator and pundit now, he credits cutting his teeth as an in-the-trenches journalist, and his attitude of never taking anything so serioulsy you can't laugh a little, for his longevity in this field that, as Mike puts it, eats hosts alive.
