So today I went out and bought some hibiscus tea. I love tea and I like trying all kinds of different teas. Mostly loose leaf, although occasionally I do like to get some medicinal tea bags that supposedly have some function. Never can tell though. I tried the Good Mood St. John's Wort tea and honestly could really tell a difference but at least it tastes pretty good.
Anyways, I picked up the hibiscus tea from a local market in my area. They sell it in bulk from tea in the form of dried flowers even though technically I don't think it is the flower that is used for the tea but rather the sepals. I was excited to try this new tea as I had never tried anything quite like it.
The first thing I noticed is that you want to make sure you don't over steep the tea. It can get really tart if you let it go too long. But once I got the brew right, it was a very good tea and especially unique. It is a kind of fruity flavor which I found to be quite refreshing. It's definitely a break from the normal green, leafy tea flavor.
As a bonus I have discovered through research and reading that it has some very good benefits on health. Some are not necessarily proven but studies that I have read are showing the tea has promise on things like blood pressure. Anyways, I highly recommend this tea to all who want to try something different.
