| Cubs clinch and prepare for the post-season

What did i tell u everyone? The Cubs are going to win the World Series! Although struggling during the beginning of the season, they played as well as they look on paper to finish the season. All this could not have been done without the aqusition and the calling up of a few minor league players. Although their pitching staff was strong, when the Cubs aquired left-hander Rich Harden from the A's, it made their pitching staff that much better. A great 1-2-3 punch with Zambrano, Dempster and Lilly, adding a fourth pitcher in Harden gave the Cubs plenty of chances to win. I will admit, during the first of the season, I was skeptical on how well Ryan Dempster would be as a starter, because of his showing the season before as a closer. But boy did he surprise me! Making it to the All-Star game and a 17-6 record and only losing 1 game at home!! Our pitching staff can not be beat. Zambrano throwing his first no-hitter against the Astros was a sign from the baseball Gods that it was destined for the Cubs to win it all this year.
Now dont get me wrong, our pitching staff is unbelievable, but it could not all have happened with out some help from the offense. Rookie catcher Geovany Soto showed his tremendous talent this year boasting a .286 batting average with 23 long balls and 86 RBIs for a rookie. Are u kidding me? Fukudome started off great at the beginning of the season but has since sizzled down a little bit, not starting many games after making the All-Star break surprised many people. He is a great player dont get me wrong, but do u think that Lou Pinella would actually do something to hurt his own team? Plus, Fukudome is a great defensive player and is inserted into the lineup with good defensive players are needed. I think the biggest surprise out of the whole Cubs lineup would have to be Mark DeRosa. Hitting 20 homeruns with 84 RBIs and hitting .281. No one would have ever expected him to have a season like this. Now time for Mr. Clutch himself, Aramis Ramirez. It seemed like everytime the Cubs were down late in the game, he would come up with a huge homerun to either tie the game or to win it! Hitting a solid .283 driving in 109 runs and hitting 26 homeruns. Now Jim Edmonds is a different story. Known for his over the shoulder basket catches, Jim Edmonds came to the Cubs from the Padres hitting a aweful .178 with 6 RBIs in 26 games. But i guess it was something about Wrigley Field that gave him some extra pop in his bat. Ending the season hitting .257 with 48 RBIs and 18 homeruns.
All I have to say is, I feel bad for any team that has to play the Cubs this year, especially at home!
