I woke up on this morning feeling so incredibly terrible. I think it was the salad I had yesterday. Anyway, the thought of food made me want to vomit, so I really didn't eat anything until after 4pm (lunch). Ok, so last week I started what I call The 30 Pound Birthday Challenge. You see, my birthday is in March, so that gives me a little over 90 days to lose 30 pounds. You think that's reasonable? That's one pound ever three days, or about 2.333 pounds per week. I've heard over and over again that dropping weight at around 2 pounds per week was heatlhy, but does that mean my goal is feasible? To be honest, I think I'm lying to myself. Losing 30 pounds would put me around 165 (my February weight) , but I really want to break into the 150s (I've never been there), maybe 155? And ultimately, someday I'd like to be 140. So the question becomes, why have I set a 30 pound goal when I'd really like to lose 40 pounds in that time? Here's the answer: I'm afraid to fail. I don't want to set a goal that I won't be able to reach. Last year when I started the ultimate diet/workout plan, I lost about 20 pounds in 6 weeks, but that was tough. Really tough. At that point, I had already graduated and my job wouldn't be starting for 6 months, so I had nothing but time. Now I have a career where I typically work 80 hour weeks, so to expect that I can have that same level of dedication is preposterous. I'll just stop whining and celebrate any successes that I have. I will bask in the fact that my clothes fit again. I will enjoy a better body image. And when I get to that 165 mark on or before my birthday, I will set another goal to lose more weight.
Great, so let's talk about my exercise plan. The good news is that I joined a gym in the same building in which I work, and I have a small gym in my apartment building so I could work out everyday if I wanted. Right now, I'm going to try and do 30 minutes of cardio at least three days a week with no dedicated lifting routine. I have started running on the treadmill to build up my endurance. Right now I'm running a 12:00 minute mile for 15 minutes. My short term goal is to be able to run that pace, or greater, for 20 minutes. I will up the training time by 5 minutes until I get to an hour (damn, that sounds scary!), and then I will work on speed. I read somewhere that the effort it currently takes me to run this 15 minutes will be the same effort it takes me to run, say, 45 minutes, but that's only if I stick with it. I hate running, but it is a challange that I want to beat. Wish me luck!

This is one of my best friends. She's the one who motivated me to start working out when I first got to college. The girl's FAST!
