My THEORY:
Weed should be legal. In Amsterdam, it is. And Holland isn't a bad place. Infact, Holland's teenagers have sex later. Holland has less crime than the United States. People don't tend to want to "rob shit," when their blazed. They'd rather just lay around. Also, if you want to get started on poverty, weed would help people forget about their problems. Oh, and here comes a new pain killer market. And, what's this? Billions of dollars spent on "the drug war" saved?! AND MORE MONEY TO THE GOVERNMENT FOR EDUCATION BECAUSE THEY NOW HAVE A WHOLE NEW MARKET?
The only people keeping weed from becoming legal are close-minded conservatives that still believe it's a hardcore drug that's as bad as the worst narcotics. It's not like that guys! C'mon! Even if you don't want to do it - why not have it legal? We allow cigs to be legal - but weed's healither and less addictive. It's frightening that we can't open our eyes. Also, can you remember that one celeberity that supported this drug - smoked it openly, and always wanted peace? Oh, yes, BOB MARLEY. One of the best muscians ever. He also had a great message.
Also, if we don't want to make smoking weed legal, what about eating it?
All weed sold could be baked into brownies.
Did you know that NOTHING (NOTHING) negative happens to you when you eat weed? And you can eat as much as you want - and get as high as you want.
Plus, when you eat it, it almost acts as a stimulant and leaves your head un cloudy. There's something to make your job more interesting.
But, I DOUBT the people that started America would support MY crazy ideas...
Oh, wait, no - they'd support it. Seeing as Thomas Jefferson (the same dude that made the Declaration of Independence, had all those great ideas and formed America!? [oh, NO WAY, he helped write the Consitution too? One of the greatest documents around?!]) had weed plantations! Same with Ben Franklin. They also, both went to Thailand and found the best marijuana seeds in the world and snuck them back into the United States for personal use. Crazy, right?
And, we could all use more hemp. If weed was legal - more hemp would be around.
Back to the United States - did you know we used to Cannabis seeds, and full leaves as LEGAL US CURRENCY. Imagine if you couldn't pay for your coffee, but grew your own weed, and could support your family that way?
...
Hmm...poverty solution again.
And it's not like weed makes you stupid. It makes your short term memory messed. So, don't make it a habit. If your dumb enough to make it a habit - your dumb enough to lose your memory. (Just like people dumb enough to make cigs a habit, are dumb enough to get lung cancer).
So, my question is, why isn't it legal?
At least to eat...
Just put age limits on it (21? 18? 16?) and limit how much people can buy.
Why not just make it a market that goes directly to funding our wars, or teaching our children?
It'd also help give people more jobs.
If you don't want it - DON'T BUY IT!
Well, sense I'm not a senator, I can't do much.
I guess I'll just rage against the machine.
If you agree, or disagree - tell me why.

You make a lot of good points that I tend to agree with but I can't see a country that is determined to wipe out the legal use of tabacco ever legalizing pot. It's stupid the way our government thinks sometimes...
I don't think tabacco should be illegal (though it should have more restrictions with the chemicals they use it and all that) but I do think if tabacco is legal, than marijuana should be too. Also, Salvia is - so their pretty much just choosing random plants. I think of it this way though, the money and jail space they waste on one-time/personal-use weed smokers is just crap. Why not save jail for the rapists and drunk drivers? And why not just GET the money that guy bought the weed with, rather than have it go to some drug dealer? Plus, if you have salvia and cigs/cigars and things like shisha legal, it's only right you have marijuana...
It doesn't make any sense.
I did a speech awhile ago about why marijuana should be legalized, and seeing how dangerous alcohol could be and it is still legal, there is no reason why marijuana shouldn't be legal.
