My first day trip. Travelled to Milwaukee via Chicago. I layed over in chicago for 90 minutes in order to catch a 17 minute flight to Milwaukee. (Yes, 17 minutes, we were at cruising altitude for a minute and a half then began our descent.) It would've taken about 75 minutes to drive from Chicago to Milwaukee.
The highway from the airpor into town is not fun. I swear the exits were marked (in this order): "Exit 320, Exit 318, Exit 1, Exit 73A, B, C, Exit 5." Mapquest had me looking for 72C... I found my way downown after driving past the city twice.
Since Allyson has lived in Milwaukee, I relied on her for activities. Milwaukee is not a bad town, its on Lake Michigan, the Art Museum is on the water and appears to be the advance model of a futuristic pirate ship, but in a good way. The Warped Tour was in town blasting across the entire waterfront, but its nice. Not really sure what you do there after a couple hours, but I didn't have that kind of time.
I won the hearing in about five minutes and headed out to get lunch before my flight back. Allyson told me to go to Taylor's because its where she always went... she'd been very enthusiastic about it. Her birthday is a few days away, so I'd decided to see if I could get her something from this mysterious "Taylor's" venue.
Well. Allyson doesn't actually know where Taylor's is. She gave me very specific directions, telling me it was next door to the building she lived in for a year. It's not. Its about a mile and a half away. And not on the same street. Better, though, is the fact that it doesn't open until 4pm. My flight out of town was at 3:55, which she knew. So I knocked on the door and explained the story to two guys preparing to open, they were a few years younger than me. I asked if they had a napkin that said "Taylor's" on it. They gave me a couple dozen napkins and matches. I'm putting them all in a jewelry box and wrapping it up for Allyson's birthday present.
