First, the update; the 4 week easy shift into candida cleanse heaven is going splendidly! Yesterday I felt great, stayed focused and managed to dodge the sugar-laden land mines lying around this office on a regular basis. Let me tell you what is typically rolling around here for the taking ; in the morning there are usually some kind of cookies or pastries in the break room, at lunchtime they fill a basket with candy bars (Almond Joy, Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kat) and in the afternoon there has been some kind of cake or doughnuts every day since I started. Criminy. Is this an office or a friggin crackhouse? I've seen heroin addicts stash this kind of booty in their rehab rooms, folks, no joke. Is it tempting? Hell yes. Did I succumb yesterday or today? Nope. Goddess, I tell ya. ;) I've done some fly-bys and I've heard that little obnoxious voice trying to manipulate and rationalize me into having "just a taste" but I know that's total b.s. and I'm not falling for my own tricks, see.
What's working really well is also doing my cardio session right when I get home, before I wind down or even have time to make excuses. Backtracking a bit, I get up early, have some lemon water and forego food until lunchtime. At that point it's been salad with lean chicken yesterday and today. Tonight I have some leftover quinoa I can have with veggies or I might just sautee a few veggies in coconut oil and garlic...super yummy and very healing. Not a bad way to live. Although I really HATE cooking and I'm terribly lazy about it. Sometimes I wish we were all like Robocop, where we could happily and healthfully subsist on a rudimentary nutrition paste. But I digress.
I'm loving the level of focus and committment here because neither have been my strong suit in the past but sometimes you just know when you hit the wall and need to take action. What I want, what awaits me at the end of this rainbow is worth any dedication, truly. Do I want an Almond Joy more than I want to be fit and lean when I play Tessa in October? Hell no.
What's the confession, you ask? It's totally unrelated to food but I figured it would be a good exercise in exposing and sublimating the ego, since it's mildly embarrassing. My confession is....I really love the TV series "Charmed". I know, it's been off the air for a while, though I think it lives on in reruns, but I actually have seasons 1 through 7 on DVD at home. This is like admitting to being a D&D geek as far as I'm concerned but I think it's high time I come out of the closet about my geek side! After all, the desire to hide such things comes solely from the ego which not only pines for approval but has the audacity to think anyone gives a crap what I watch. I'm pulling back the curtain on all of that, leaving my ego exposed.
I love that damned show because it's such a fun alternate Universe, where being a witch is a good thing, supernatural adventures are par for the course in any given day, the digs are a fabulous old Victorian manner and the men are just yummy beyond description (big thank you to Brian Krause and Julian McMahon for that!). There's a sense of female empowerment, connection to goddess energy and a sense of sisterhood you rarely see in the "real world". And good Lord they have the coolest clothes. Come on, I'm a chick, you knew it wasn't all just the feminine empowerment vibe, right? The ladies had style. And in terms of their archetypal natures, I'm more of a Paige myself; fiesty, independent, only child, flighty, wicked sense of humor and she had a funky retro style with just a dash of femme fatale. What fun to watch!
Kudos to the writers and producers as well for doing some respectable research and for the 8 glorious seasons that they ran, they brought in storylines involving Greek mythology, Egyptian lore and genuine pagan roots. For those of us that do walk the witchy path, it's a pleasure to see our ilk painted in such a positive light and with reverence and respect. Oh, and fabulous outfits.
So there you have it; a tiny little peek at my deep, dark secrets. I think that's enough for today! |
