| raw food detox and transition, day one |
Yesterday was the first day I really went 100% with committing myself to this raw food transition, and the exciting difference for me in this shift is that with this system, which combines so many things I've tried separately into one great plan, I get to have things like raw goat's cheese, super dark chocolate and/or raw cocao, raw nuts, etc.
What I found in jumping into this joyfully was that I wasn't craving crap the way I have been incessantly, especially at the office, and I was well satisfied with a fraction of the amount of food I usually eat. I was also quite energetic well into the night, so that by almost midnight I was just starting to feel knackered, when recently I'd been feeling logy around 8 or 9pm!
I started my day with a pint of Green Smoothie, which isn't what Natalia Rose suggests for the morning, she uses a recipe that's almost identical but done in a juicer to extract the pulp. But I don't have a juicer and I honestly prefer having the pulp in. I feel that Victoria Boutenko is right in saying that by blending it, you're sort of pre-digesting the cellulose that makes greens tough to digest at first, and I like having something to sort of chew on for a while. So that was sipped throughout the morning, and I had a banana. Interestingly, I'm not having ANY issues with reactivity to bananas as I was previously, which leads me to believe it's about the combining issue, not the bananas themselves. Hoorah! I love nanas.
I didn't really have much food with me so yesterday I munched on raw almonds in the mid afternoon, had a nibble or two of 85% chocolate by Green & Black organic (yum!) and then had about 2 oz. of smoked salmon around 3pm. I planned to eat the whole 4 oz portion but just found I was totally full after half a portion.
When I got home I still wasn't terribly hungry but knew I needed some things so I went to the real health food store out here, Naturemart, and laughed as I noticed the familiar and wonderful smell Rose describes in her book...that hippy health food store smell of vitamins and B12, this place has that in spades!
I got some great stuff; raw almond butter, raw goat's milk cheese, raw honey, a kombucha, raisins (preservative free), more good dark chocolate, greens, fruit, etc. When I got home, I still felt that salmon in my belly so I didn't want to eat much else. I think maybe the nuts were too close to the salmon so it didn't digest as quickly as it should have. I need to have greens with flesh protein too, or just do more cooked veg.
So today my plan is; green smoothie, lunch will be the raw cheese on romaine leaves with dijon mustard, Larabar as a snack if needed, and tonight I will bake a sweet potato to have with some salad. I want to mix up some of her Liquid Gold Elixir dressing, because it sounds amazing, and carry it with me. With this lifestyle, being prepared is important, so I will be carrying some things with me all the time; raw cheese, green smoothies, raw nuts and dried fruit, dressing, stevia. Might need to grab a small thermal bag with an ice pack to keep in my car. All well worth it! I feel so good already!
I love that this integration of so many things I believe in (food combining, alkalinity, living foods) also allows for things I find so delicious and joyful to eat...and paradoxically, it's freeing me from an unhealthy dependency on food for "comfort" or distraction...or addiction. All of which have been an issue in the past.
I'll try out some of the recipes this weekend, and as soon as the new blender blade arrives by mail, I'll give her raw ice cream a go (raw young coconut meat, fresh fruit, ice, raw honey!)
I'm feeling free, light, joyful and very excited about finally stumbling onto a path that works so well for me!
