now THIS is interesting...sign of the times?
This morning I read an article about french workers taking their bosses hostage at a Caterpillar when they got wind of proposed layoffs and apparently previously these bosses hadn't shown up for scheduled negotiations...and THAT, ladies and gents, just will not be tolerated and I have never been so proud to be human and of the revolutionary bent!

Here's the article for those who haven't heard about this:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/31/france.hostages.c aterpillar.workers/index.html

What's even more interesting is that this kind of action isn't terribly novel right now, according to the article.  And I, for one, completely applaud this trend!  It's done peacefully and without harm to anyone but sends a clear message that we ARE mad as hell and are NOT going to take it anymore.

Fat cat Corporate bosses need to tread more carefully upon the backs of those they walk upon to get to their platinum desks. When I saw Chicago factory workers protesting loudly and in full view of a media circus despite sub zero temperatures over their layoffs during the holidays, I was proud to be a Chi-town girl...obviously the French workers take this a step further.  As I read about this I thought to myself that how it's handled will set an important precident that will likely be followed by other downtrodden masses, and as it turns out this action has actually fueled respectful forward momentum in the prior incidents, and I hope it does again.

Two of the people I admire are Gandhi and Che Guevara, two seemingly opposite forces in the world but with one common motivating factor; love and a desire to see the underlings freed from tyranny and oppression.  Anyone who thinks this kind of economic scenario doesn't qualify has their eyes wide shut. I don't see the superwealthy suffering here or worrying, I only see those who keep their empires running being directly and immediately effected.

I find this encouraging and I honestly hope to see more of this...and I hope to see these situations resolved peacefully and with a satisfactory conclusion for EVERYONE.

Viva la revolucion!

I couldn't get the link open, but I am going to go with your contextual clues on it. HURRAH! People need to take a stand and fight for their rights as well as the things they believe in! Not sure who Che Guevara is...sounds like something fun for me to research (and we all know how much I LOVE my research)! Have a loverly day.

Oh my Lord...if you do not know who Che Guevara is I URGE you to research it...he was a revolutionary who was ultimately murdered by the CIA because too many world leaders listened to him, respected him and agreed with him, and he sought to take down the capitolist system and help the oppressed underdogs of the world via revolution. Some people don't respect what he did because of the violence inherent in it, but I see him as a Gandhi figure...they were both motivated by love and a desire to see people freed from tyranny, but Che believed that could never happen via peaceful means because the machine is too powerful...I agree with that. So check out some of his books, writings, etc. Amazing work, from an amazing man. The movie "Motorcycle Diaries" is based on his youth, pre-revolution, and it's beautifully done. They are also a fascinating read. And Steven Soderbergh's 2 part, lengthy biopic, "Che", looks to be incredible...I will be seeing that soon. He's a personal hero, and I think you'd be inspired by him too. ;)
