| busy, busy, busy...who cares??? |
Ok people, I just have to say that I am witnessing an incredible paradox right now...the juxtaposition of this enormous spiritual movement supposedly towards presence and stillness, which accounts for ego-mongers like Tolle becoming the latest Messiah via massive media pushes, and alongside of this seemingly insatiable appetite for growth and evolution, we have the terminally busy people of the world.
First, if you ARE one of these terminally busy people, quit whining about it or bragging about it...both of which I hear daily. If you're whining, shut up and change the situation you created. If you're bragging, definitely shut up because being incessantly "on the go" isn't something to be proud of; it's wasting away your precious time here with minutiae instead of literally STOPPING and smelling the roses, or whatever floats your boat.
Nothing is more perfectly designed to keep you from reaching your full potential as a spiritual being than incessant business. It keeps your mind chattering away 24/7 on things of little real consequence, leaving you very little time to connect with people, nature and...GASP, yourself.
Ultimately, it's fear that keeps people running like hamsters on squeaky wheels in a cage. Fear of stopping and seeing what IS, fear of discovering that they are not, in fact, indispensable, and fear of being alone with themselves. Well, the bad news is, wherever you go, there you are. On your deathbed, and I mean this as a serious question and image to reflect upon, will you really be so thrilled and proud that you filled your days to the brim with bullshit? That's what most of the "busy-ness" I see really is, complete and utter crap that could certainly be skipped or greatly condensed. Life is as simple or complicated as you make it, period.
“Busy-ness” is also a state of mind, an energy of chaos...you know when you're around one of these people by that feeling that a hurricane just blew through the room...and I tell you I've seen people working 3 jobs manage to look calm, peaceful and completely present within that circumstance. Their state of mind wasn't about being a poodle on crack, or constantly multitasking. Oy, and the people who don't even work tend to use the word "busy" every time I see them or speak with them and when they list the litany of woes, it's almost entirely unnecessary minutiae. Congratulations. Way to spend a life.
You can live a luscious, rich, full life without storming through it like a man on fire. You can wait for an elevator, all 3 minutes worth, without checking your Blackberry or iPhone 6 times, or even ONE time. You can stroll through a day even with lots to "do" with an energy and state of mind that feels as if you have nothing to do. Try it. I swear to you it works...stress melts away, things get done just as well, if not better, and you end the day with energy, grace, radiance.
The rewards for being present, staying grounded, understanding what's really important, and what's not, are precious and limitless. But for those of you addicted to your drama and your adrenaline...vaya con dios, my friends. ;)
I'm going to go chill outside under a tree for a while. And do nothing. What bliss.
