The beginning of Les Miserable, Volume One!
Ladies and gentlement, I do apologize for the lack of additions since the original posting of this idea. Unfortunately my job is something which demands an unfair amount of my time during certain periods during the year. Such is the nature of retail, as I have discovered. But now our inventory is behind us and my life can creep back to some sense of normality!

I also struggled narrowing my choices down to ten even as far as my favorite books. There are so many great books out there, it would be a shame to miss some of them with their recognition. Lots of good classics, such as The Count of Monte Cristo, would certainly hold a place upon such a list. Being an fantasy fan it would be an insult to not include something from Tolkien, such as The Return of the King on that list. I also have a few other personal preferences/biases that I've developed over the years; a particular fondness for books that to most would cause the scratching of the head, such as Brian Jacques' Martin the Warrior. My love for the King Arthur legend is bad enough for that very reason, as I am certain I would rank two such books in my top five, if not top three. If you ever have the chance to read the Queen of Camelot books, which consist of two books, by Nancy McKenzie you should do so. And the pure innvation brought about in A.A. Attanasio's The Dragon and the Unicorn was enough to capture my heart as well.

And then we would be forced to continue onward with the list, and I would have to choose, once again, amongst the great classics like Treasure Island; genre staples such as Ender's Game; or personal favorites such as Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. I also have to weigh in the fact that there are some authors, such as David Eddings and Piers Anthony, that I own a hefty number of books from. Should something like Belgarath the Sorcerer or Split Infinity find their way onto such a list? What about another childhood favorite of mine, such as Richard Adam's Watership Down? Is the book really that awesome, or is it my personal bias from it being a part of my past that I possess such fond memories of the book which would even give it some consideration? And then we hit on some books which, standing alone aren't quite as great as they are when measured as the entire series, but might deserve consideration! How could I fail to consider putting The Earthsea Trilogy or The Hitchhiker's Trilogy on there? So, my friends and colleagues and fellow literarians, can you see my struggle!? But I would hope that this little randomized ranting has given you all some sort of insight as to which books have, in fact, stolen my heart as I have read them over the years. There are so many others out there that deserve mention, but to do so would require me going on for hours. I'll pull my own plug on that!

So let us get back to what this blog post was supposed to be about: the beginning of the book-a-week challenge! First off, I am going to include a link to a thread I began at a forum, in which I mentioned this challenge. I'm welcoming members there to use that thread as their "blog" if they need to if they wish to join in on the fun. So, that link is: hhtp://www.thefinalfantasy.com/forums/literature/60014-im-ne rd-i-know-just-click.html

Also, I will have that and my sister's blog linked over there on the right side of the page sometime very soon as well. Look for that, check that out, and feel free to join in on the fun!!

For Volume One of Les Miserable, I have broken down the pages into a page per day total I need to hit in order to be done with that volume in one week: 48. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem so bad, eh? So I think I'm going to go seek for a while on Final Fantasy XI and begin reading my book now in the meantime...
