Au$200,000, it's a bargain! What's that? A puff of blue smoke on start up? Leaking valve guide seals already? Or are the turbos loosing their bearings? Spooky. I'd park it next to my GT40 without feeling guilty or gauche. At that price the ME is a car you could both flog and afford to repair without a second mortgage from satan. It's a long way back to DeSoto.

But my heart is stolen and locked in the 1964 British built Ford. That was a period when metallurgical exotica was comprehensible, titanium and chromalloy. The inner beauty of a machine was the rough desirability of bulging bicep and sunburned, veined, forearms. A scar or two and heaps of sweat. When the skill of the little toe meant the different between a smooth down shift and a disaster. When tires were made of black concrete and fuel was exceptionally carcinogenic even poisonous. At the time that these dinosaurs traveled the earth they polluted and helped set in place the disaster that is climate change. I made my bed and have laid in it ever since I was an 11 year old boy. I refuse to get up. I must still be an 11 year old boy, obstinately dreaming of a substitute cock and wishing my push bike could smoke the back wheel.

Talk or write about relationships, love, art, politics, or the meaning of meaning with nostalgic romanticism and I'll criticise with a sharp tongue and a dull wit. What a 150 litre, mechanically and chemically supercharged hypocrite I am.

Thank you Lyn, your choice makes perfect performance and economical sense, while my choice is an unrequited love for Holly Golightly, waiting outside Tiffanys with a take away coffee and a hole in her heart that only George Peppard had the opportunity to fill.

It is a concept car. Maybe they don't have all the bugs engineered out. Or new ones engineered in.

And I can see your point. Sometimes we love for reasons other than logic. And only chromally can fill the hole in our hearts.

Fair enough, but I usually prefer to stay away from high, no that's not right, Very high maintenance relationships.

Looks a little like Audi's R8.

Oh, and the SLR was designed and built almost exclusively by McLaren. I believe the engines are Merc units from their Race Engine division in England.

Oh, there I go again...

I've requested a car thread in the forums. Don't know why they don't have one already.
