Long
on Love
I
was mentored for many years by my first wife's father (we divorced in
the 1990's) who was a retired minister and died at age 90 in 1996.
He had been a minister for almost 50 years before retiring. He told
me several times, “In the struggle between liberals and
fundamentalists the fundamentalists (doctrinal conservatives)are
almost always right on doctrine but I've observed that they are very
short on love. The liberals are long on love but short on doctrine.
In light of the love chapter (Hebrews 13) the fundamentalists don't
look very good.
He
really wasn't a fundamentalist but he was a conservative or
traditionalist determined to follow Christ. I want to do the same.
