LEADERSHIP
IS EVERYTHING
Years
ago I attended a Church Growth training seminar led by John Maxwell
(actually several of them) in which he said “Leadership is
everything”. I see that there is a website by that name and a book
has been published with that title, none of which has to do with
churches, which, as a retired pastor, is where my experience lies. I
imagine the same principle is true in every field and I assure you it
is true in churches, Of course, leadership is shared by ministers
and laity, really with everyone involved, but an organization either
“drifts” or goes somewhere, and if it goes somewhere it is
because those leading are guiding it towards a destination.
So,
if your organization IS somewhere or is going somewhere it is because
its leadership is directing it there. If it is “dead in the water”
that is also because whoever is leading is doing things to keep it
from going anywhere. Leadership is EVERYTHING. Leadership can be
good, bad, or ugly. Leadership may need encouragement, motivation,
or replacement, but leadership is not only important, it is
everything!
