Back to the Religion stuff again...
I read the comments to my previous post: "Where is God?" and I really appreciate all your input and insight on things.  I can't say, that there is nothing out there.  I don't believe God is what religion says he is.  If that makes things more clear.  Also, with that being said, I grew up around the biggest Jesus freaks you will ever meet.  I have read the bible and I used to go to church.  So my biggest beef is with Christianity.  A religion that has left such a sour taste in my mouth.  I've seen things that leave me shaking my head.

So on one side of my shoulder I have an angel and on the other a devil.  The angel side tells me that I'm gonna burn in hell if I don't believe in Jesus.  But I think its the part of my brain that's still brain washed.  I have to admit, I was brain washed.  And now I'm trying to regain control of my brain.  You see, I try to do good.  And I think that's all that matters.  I have my morals and values.  I try to be the best mom and wife that I can be.  I'm working on the friend part, because I'm a bad friend.  And I just try to lead a good decent life.

The devil on the other side tells me the bible is fake.  I think it's a made up myth.  But, and that's a big but, I'm not saying what is written is bad, I just don't take it literally.  For example, the story of Noah's ark.  I really don't think that happened.  But, my interpretation would be, if you had the whole world taken away from you, but you had your family, that you can overcome anything and rebuild your world.  The moral is beautiful.  But let's talk about Jesus.

Let's go back to before he was born.  Horus, born in Egypt, way back in 3000 B.C.  And this is all mythological.  Here's a little history on him:

Born on 12/25
Born of a Virgin
When he was born he was adored by 3 kings
At 12 he became a prodical child teacher
at 30 he was  baptized and began his ministries.
He had 12 disciples and performed miracles such as healing the sick and walking on water
He had names such as "The Lamb of God," and "The Light."
He was  betrayed, crucified, buried for 3 days and then resurrected.

Don't his characteristics sound awfully close to Jesus'?  And whether Horus is real or not, he's not the only one with these traits.  All around the world, cultures adopted this mythological structure for many other gods.
Attis, Greece 1200 BC; Kirshna, India, 900 BC, etc.  The question is why is Jesus the same as the rest?  If the rest is mythology, what makes Jesus real?

I was going to write a really long response to this, but it's too much, I've decided.

The point of religion is to direct people to lead healthy lives. The easiest way to do manipulate is through fear. Fear that we will actually receive the hell that is promised to us by our priest.

That said, I do believe that there is some God above watching over us. The odds of our planet existing and being able to create and sustain extremely intelligent life are too low for me to believe that it was all just right place right time.

I think one, rather obvious, argument to the "multiple jesus'" is that since he was resurrected maybe he came to Earth multiple times under different names. I mean, Hell, people are still fucking up all the time. I would really like it if Jesus came down now and absolved us of all of our sins.

Jesus was not born on 12/25, it's just the date picked (by men) to replace a pagan holiday.
I believe the Bible is God's Word. I realize too, that men are fallible/corrupt, and things got lost or stretched in translation. I don't allow this (the Devil's hand in things) to keep me from wanting to sneak a peak at His love letter to us.
There are parallels in the historical figures you mentioned. Perhaps these civilizations heard each others stories. The prophets of the old testament, like Isaiah, received foreshadowing descriptors of the Messiah to come. But beyond that, I'm pretty sure that the experiences I've had have been with God (Jesus) and not Krishna or Horace. In other words, the struggle to figure out if it's all exact and factual, or what came first is an obstacle put up by "the other side" to keep our little analytical minds away from the Creator. Hardly anyone reading the Bible for the first time finds it interesting, but applying God's word is vital to getting to the relationship part(where lots of good stuff starts happening). It's the evidence that we are willing to learn about Him. The difficulty is not with the Bible itself, but with the reader's inability to bridge the gap between the past and present, the conceptual and practical. Sadly, this keeps many as far away from it as possible. Can't you get close to God without the Bible? Certainly, history is full of biblical scholars who failed to apply what they knew to their lives. So, it's about both desire and knowledge. (My people perish from a lack of knowledge)

There was this agnostic philosopher, in ancient times, who was stuck in the same debate with himself. Name was Pascal (sp.)? After years of plotting all that made sense and all that didn't, he realized (just as you kinda stated above) that he might as well explore Christianity, spare his soul from hell. Because of the cost of disbelief was too high, if he happened to be wrong. It's called "Pascal's Wager" and it led him to belief.
Oh, I could go on and on. I am discovering SO many things with Christ. He was teaching about Quantum Physics and the power of thought long before "The Secret" was "exposed" by Oprah. Mainly, it's what happens day by day when I follow after Him, show that I am looking for Him. That's what makes Jesus real to me. AS I've explored the Bible WITH scepticism, I have had most of my questions answered. Stuff which blows my little human mind, all falling into place BUT I have SO much more to learn. When I first began, I'll be honest, I hated it. BOR-ING!! And all those Goodie-Goodie people at church! BLE-CK!! However, I discovered, much to my delight, that Christ avoided them, went straight for the beaten, broken down criminals. And I found that God used a great many corrupt men (David, an adulterer, Moses a murderer with low self-esteem). Most of who I thought of as "holier than thou" have become people who would do anything for my family. These "tight-shirts" are more FREE SPIRITED than any of the free-thinkers I used to admire. The humanist is bound in a web of lies...sorry!!

If you're right in your disbelief, what's the outcome? Is ANYONE going to be on the other side saying, "You were right, Luci, there is no god, no heaven, no point to your living. You are now released to float/reincarnate/fill in the blank eternally." OR
"Luci, I'm sorry that you were wrong. In your quest to find THE truth, you found no truth. You will be eternally separated from what that was, and will be tormented by your questions. Having nothing to believe in, you have nothing to receive."

okay, sorry 'bout the long sermon, uh, I mean post. please ignore any sense of judgement in this response. Your questions are valid. I'm sure hangin' with fanatics as a kid helped to paint an abstract of who God is. Even among believers, we each have our own palettes. More than who we draw Him as, or does He fit into our box? ...does He know us? How far do we let Him into our "realities." Cuz, if whoever you think He is can fit into a neat little package, that god is too small for me! + PeaceOut +

JBP, your comment can be as long as you want it to be...i like the fact that I'm getting challenged on this. It's helping me on my journey. And I agree, that yes, there probably is something...I to feel that it can't just be an accident. Maybe I'll get into that in my next post.

Thanks Temp, you and I are not the only ones. :)

Paperlily, I want to address parts of your comment in my next post. and thanks for your input :)

Christianity isn't the only religion that thinks it has a monopoly on the truth. Almost every major relegion does, and when you write these things your making a claim to the truth also. You're being a little hypocritical.

Richard, i didn't say that. you are assuming. the only religion i know is christianity, i cannot speak for others unless i understand them first. one thing at a time, let's not jump the gun.

I to have struggled several times with a few things in reguards to this topic. I believe in god, but the aspect in which and how I believe changes. I am not a word for word person, I beleive that after all this time so many translations that it can not be taken that way. In a society where a miss placed period or coma can change the meaning of a whole sentance. I respect you for your beliefs, and I believe we all have to find our own way. No one person has all the answers, Good post I am glad you shared your thoughts.
