1972 i am 12. i remember a vacation to a nice cabin near a lake up north,i got to sleep in the loft by myself!! finally my own private space.i have a picture of me ready for bed with a pretty blue quilt, and smiling. My father took it,and it is on my fridge right now.
I remember being at my cousin Kathy's house staying up late and trying to play kerplunk without making noise. We laughed all night. One night my older boy cousin Dan got caught smoking somthing in the basement.i wondered why my aunt was so upset. He was also in trouble with the law alot,i was young and didn't know anything about drugs.I had another cousin that was older and there was always alot of wispers about her.i know she was skinny and scraggly and i didn't see much of her, compared to my other cousins who i had alot of fun with.
my mother never drank.she never smoked.she never swore, she never missed a sunday or holy day of church.she never missed making a dinner or keeping the house spotless(except for my half of my room)
she took care of my grandfather.
Her dad.i can remember around this time my father and i drove newark,n.j. to pick him up. he lived in the apt.that my mother was born in and that her mother died in.His kitchen table was loaded with pill bottles and four roses whiskey.it didn't hit me until later in life that this man was some kind of addict.
Some of the real fun things i like doing were, going sleigh riding down the BIGGEST hill in the village.I was not afraid to go as fast as i could and do the jumps.
We ice scated too alot.on the "pig pond" named that because my cousins tried to tell me that there neighbors pigs all came over and fell in the water and got froze over.I belived them.
I rode my new bike down the Biggest hill in town one day no brakes as fast as i could and at the end i skidded out and cut my knee wide open.I had to walk all the way home,so hurt and crying.
i rode over my finger on a flexible flyer sleigh and crushed the nail.it ended up coming off and even now it bothers me.
i am not really interested in boys i guess at this point, friend were created equal.
