“Some of the world’s greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible.” -Doug Larson
tomorrow i start training yet again for another race, on july 27th i have a ten miler!!! i'm excited...i know i can go the distance(thats not a problem for me) the thing is i want to add speed. my goal: 1:22:00 or better. so i have exactly 4 weeks to make that goal a reality. training is going to have to be stepped up a notch. i've taken 3 days off of running (im super stressed over a statistics test i have tomorrow, college is a lot tougher then i ever imagined). my race times have actually been getting worse (maybe - from heat?!humidy ?! or spending all my time on the teadmill?!?! ) i'm working on getting back to running outside.
i was reading an article on runners world; it said that weight loss can improve running times. i'm going to try and lose 10lbs and see if it really works, problem is i usually get to a certain weight and cant budge from there. the article said you want a BMI about 18.5, if you go lower, your times will actually get worse...right now my BMI is 21.5 if a loss the weight i'll be at 19.5.
i love the challenge of endurance running. i completed my first half marathon in may (2:02:36) not bad considering i just started running in sept ('08). while i love endurance, im starting to feel my competitveness emerge. i completed a series of 5K races (it consisted of 7 races). i entered just to get some experience and practice before my half-marathon but i ended up winning the series 3rd place for my age group (20-24) the first and second place winners were both 24, which means if they run next yr they wont be in my age group. this makes me a good contender to win first place in 2009...that is my ultimate goal right now...build up speed and WIN next yr!!!
one day i'd like to run in athens, doing a full marathon. i think running the original course would be amazing and i know the intensity of emotion would give me a high and push me beyond all possible limits. as of now, i'm a broke college student so that dream will have to wait at least until i graduate (should be next summer '09) hey, i need the extra time to become a better runner anyway.
i recently just became comfortable calling myself a runner. i done several 5Ks and a half marathon. won a few medals for my age group and my finishers medal (of course!) yet, it didnt feel right ,calling myself i runner; i simply told people i love running. ive never been "an athlete" and now at 21 yrs. old i'm just getting a taste of what its like to be one.
Some of my Upcoming Races
- July 27: 10 mile trail run, Marsh Creek (Goal: 1:22:00/better)
- Sept 21: ING Philadelphia Half Marathon (Goal 2:00:00/better)
- Sept 27: 5K
- Oct 19: Nike Womens Half Marathon
- Nov 22: 5K turkey trot (goal: 20:00/better) my best time, so far, is 24:26
