It's been a couple weeks since i posted last, but it's been pretty busy with midterms and spring break, so i apologize to you who look forward to my post every week. Don't worry, i'm still around! :)
For the next few weeks i'll be focusing on instrumentals from movie soundtracks. It's always interesting how certain songs are always remembered when tagged with a movie. Not only is the piece significant to the specific scene, but it also reflects the emotions and story line of the movie as a whole. Sometimes it's not the same theme for everyone, but other times the theme becomes the general song that everyone can relate to and it's used for that purpose.
Most of these themes that i'll use will be from movies that are pretty widely known. This first theme is from a famous composer, Hans Zimmer. He is well known for movie soundtracks. In my opinion, composers now-a-days find breakthroughs in fame through movies rather than in music halls(though, most of them start out composing in small orchestras around the world as every composer needs to start somewhere). And even now, composers who create music for games are becoming famous as well, i.e. Nobou Uematsu. You can disagree with me, but if you can think of any famous composers in our present day society that somehow isn't linked to movie/game soundtracks and that the common individual might have heard the music of(not necessarily the name), please enlighten me...if not just for the case that i can listen to new music that i can expand my library with! :) I think though, that these composers are few and far between unless you really enjoy classical music.
The Gladiator(2000) might have been the breakthrough soundtrack for Hans Zimmer, as Gladiator is one of the top ten movies, if not top five or three depending on who you talk to from the last decade. It's music has been heard by millions of people, yet not many know who composed it. This piece that was created with Lisa Gerrard is probably the song with which most people can picture being the most famous piece from the movie. As it comes at the end, it's very powerful and can easily be remembered.
Other famous movies that Hans Zimmer created music for are: Cool Runnings(1993), The Lion King(1994), Crimson Tide(1995), The Rock(1996), Broken Arrow(1996), The Thin Red Line, (1998), Mission: Impossible 2(2000), Black Hawk Down (2001), Pearl Harbor (2001), The Last Samurai (2003), King Arthur (2004), Batman Begins (2005), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), The Dark Knight (2008), Kung Fu Panda (2008), and many more! He also created the music behind Tarja Turunen's album which i posted a song for back in December.
As you can see, Hans Zimmer's music is famous beyond doubt and his music has changed what we perceive of movies.
I hope you enjoy this piece and may it bring back memories of the movie! (If you have seen it that is...if not, rent it today! :) )
