 Thomas Newman - Cathedral
This next piece is pretty short.  It's from a pretty unknown movie that's a few years old.  Road to Perdition is a gangster movie with Tom Hanks.  It's very interesting piece and it seems to do a good job depicting life in the...40s?  Can't remember when the date of the movie takes place but oh well, enough about the movie!

I enjoyed this instrumental piece as it took the essence of the movie and put it into a very short song.  It summarizes the story line but not necessarily the whole movie.  When i think about this particular piece it reminds me a lot about the end of the movie, and through that the whole story.  It allows me, through the song, to rethink the movie.

Going beyond the movie, i think the title of the song also brings an idea of what a "cathedral" essence would feel like.  Could you see yourself walking into a cathedral with this music playing?  I think it's an interesting concept as composers usually try and catch the imagination of the person listening and through the title, give a feel for the song is trying to capture.  Even the choir voice close to the end helps to drive the point home, so to speak, as to give the feeling of being in a cathedral.

Song: Cathedral

wow... i thought that i was the only one who thought that piece was so moving. yes, it does cause one to envision the entire movie just thru the ending. a very nice piece of music, but i think that newman did a remarkable job with 'shawshank redemption' as well! another great artist is jerry goldsmith and i especially like the 'lost in the wild' soundtrack. dead fall, lost... both excellent pieces.

anyway... thank you for sharing that piece of music... outstanding! call me Stone

Thanks for the comment Stone! :)
I will definitely have a look into the "lost in the wild" soundtrack when i have a chance! I've heard of Jerry Goldsmith, but i do not have much of his music, though it's kind of funny how this next piece that i'm posting is by him!
