| Crashing & Falling: An Ode to my pinkie finger
|

|
People do not take your pinkie finger for granted anymore...because you will miss it when it is gone! Mine is gone and I miss it. Ok so my pinkie is not gone...but it is slightly damaged and out of service for a bit..and let me tell you...you have no idea how much your little bitty finger does. I wish I had a huge life saving story to tell you about my current lack of a pinkie but I don't! I could tell you I was rushing into a burning building to save a child (or kittens whichever you'd like) and while busting down a wall to rescue the stranded I jammed my finger. I could tell you a lot of life saving stories but not a one of them would be true. The real story is that I was swinging at the swings at my local park (it's my favorite place to go for just me and God time). Well today I guess God and I got a little carried away or over excited or something because the swing broke and I was crashing and falling to a certain death...if my precious pinkie hadn't broken the fall! I probably owe my life to my pinkie finger! (Ok, so that might be over exaggerating...I could feel the fall coming and I was braced for it and slowed down enough that no major injuries would have been possible!) However I landed my poor pinkie got in the way and lost in a battle to maintain it's shape against the rest of my body! And alas my pinkie is mangeled, a bit crooked,a nd now supported by a brace because apparently unless your finger is like hanging limply off your hand they don't do anything to fix fingers but brace them and tell you to put ice on them. Oh, and take Tylenol if the pain gets too bad! But, I never thought that you used your pinkie as much as you do...or maybe it's the brace that gets more in the way whatever it is I miss my pinkie and I will never take it for granted again...and my dear reader I'd encourge you to never again take advantage of your smallest finger either because when it's out of service you are going to miss it!
I do need a good story though for when I go back to work on Monday...they think I'm weird anyway and when I tell them the swing broke they'll wonder why I at 24 was on the swing anyway! I'll probably never have another weekend off!
Just laughing at life and living with a bit of pain!

Nice blog, sorry to hear about your injury. I once got rear-ended on the way to church, so I understand exactly what you mean. God bless, Lou

It's good to see you have a good attitude, inspite of circumstances! :)
