Memorial Day weekend was more than just a picnic/holiday to my family this year. Saturday, May 24th was Scotties 6th birthday and we wanted to do something unique and special....On his special day we had all gone to his gravesite with a few balloons for the kids to give to him. It was touching and the little ones understood a bit better bc they know Scotties in heaven and by leaving their balloons they also knew he would recieve them.
But today we gathered together for a little picnic and everyone brought all these brightly colored balloons....I've never seen sooooo many balloons in my life....It looked like Macy's parade on Thanksgiving Day. The balloon business here must have made a fortune. There were bright ones and neon ones and pastels and some with Scottie's name on them and just hundreds of them....It was an amazing sight to behold. We were all in a little better spirits bc it was a more festive setting maybe...I don't know but it was different. Each person had something sweet to say and of course there were tears....When it came to my turn I read the poem Colorado Dreamin sent to Scottie via my post.....I could barely get the words out and finally Stephanie finished reading it for me. I have never in my entire life felt so close to her or my dear grandson. It was a miraculous feeling....it was almost spiritual.
At the end we all said "Happy Birthday Scottie" and threw him kisses and left these hundreds of balloons go. The sky was all of a sudden red, blue, green, yellow, pink, purple, white, and many more colors. It was like someone left the paint caps off and poured colors from heaven itself. It was the most mind boggling scene I have ever been fortunate enough to witness. The sun was out, the sky was cloudless and blue and it was just beautiful. I wish you all could have been there with me and my kids and friends. Surely it would have been something you never would have forgotten. For once there was no fighting, no hard feelings, no bitterness....just the sight of all those colors going up to the heavens on this day 2008.
I know he is having a blast with all those balloons and sharing them with all his new friends.....If you should see one floating around in your area, give it a kiss and send it back to Scottie.....I'm sure hes looking for it...Thank You for making this difficult time so much better for me and my Steph.

Karen -- This post so touched my heart. What a beautiful and meaningful way to honor this special little boy. A little boy who graced this world for a short time, but whose spirit will grace the hearts of everyone who knew him for all time. Peace.

You....especially you I wish could have been there...you may see some balloons flying over the aussie area..:) I'm sure scottie wouldn't mind if master 5 kept one....remember what I said about sisters in my email....we are those...:)

I'm sure he loved all the excitement. He loved balloons and noise and music and all that went with it. I'm sure he was sitting up there with his little wings on eating his favorite food...applesauce and granola bars...I will never forget it for my entire life. thank you for the 'stop in'.

This sounded like the most beautiful tribute to a wonderful boy. The love that you all feel for him just flows from you words.
I am so glad that the day was a wonderful for you and your family. I will be looking out for a ballon and if I see one I will send it striaght back to Scottie
