OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES......
Today i got to spend time with another grandson....how glad i am that i am a young grandmother.....it means a lot to know i can go and do with them without worrying about feeling too tired or weary. Ppl still think i'm his mother and not his grandma so i guess thats a plug....hell it is for me. But since losing Scottie being with the other grandkids is extra special to me. They can never make up for Scott's loss but they help with the healing for sure.
Today was Tuesday so it was Riley's day. We went to pay bills,,,,,yuck.....and then to do some shopping...always a nice thing to do...and then out to lunch to where else?  Burger King. Its usually Mickie D's but this Burger King had a play yard like no other and there were kids there soooooooo it was Burger King.
I insisted Riley eat at least a little lunch before plunging into the crowd of kids and beginning his jaunt with them. He noticed a little boy that was alone and that no one was playing with. He kept staring at this child and I thought nothing of it at the time. Finally he could stand it no longer and asked to go play....'I'll save this food for when I get hungry later....OK?' I let him go and instead of playing with the other children in this huge play yard that was state of the art it seemed, he went right to this little boy. They began the chatter of 4 yr olds and soon were just talking away and playing pretty much by themselves. Riley came over and grabbed a drink and I just had to ask why he wasn't playing on the play yard and why he was over there with the little boy just sitting there talking. He informed me that the little boy (whos name was Carter) wasn't allowed to play bc he was sick and he had to sit there alone. He also told me that Carter was his 'new friend' and that they were talking about transformers and stuff. He ran back over to the boy and they continued to just chat away for the longest time. His mother told me he had an illness and couldn't run and romp like his siblings and he was usually left on the sidelines. She was so surprised that Riley simply came over and started a conversation with him bc that never happened. All I could think of was Scottie and how he couldn't romp around and play like the other children. He always had to watch himself and Steph was constantly afraid he would fall and injure himself. The grandkids always rallied around him and never left him out but other children did.
I am so glad that I had Riley with me and that he showed this child the love and attention he so wanted and deserved. What could us as adults learn from this child or other children? To accept others and stop the freaking petty shit and fighting. To learn to love each other and stop hating. To love what you have instead of what you don't. To accept the different in the world as though there was no difference. Yes, we as adults could certainly learn a lot from children.....children don't act like us and thank God for that. They love without discrimination...they overlook the crap in the world.
Maybe it should be the children guiding us instead of the other way around. Maybe children should rule this world of wars, hate, racism, and filth. I learn so much every time I'm with my babies and I hope to carry it with me forever. I want to be able to look beyond the differences of the ppl of the world and look into the goodness and kindness. I have seen here on thoughts the goodness in ppl. When I was down they picked me up. When I was in pain they gave me comfort. When I was alone they gave me company. Riley is a good child and will a good adult. I don't ever want him to change....never.

Please do me a bif favour and give Riley a big hug for me.

There should be more Riley's out there. The world would be so much better for it.

Do know you and his parents have had a hand in the way his is with the love that you cherish on him and all of your grandchildren.

I can feel you pride in them.

"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." -- Jesus

How special. Children are my greatest teachers. The world is in need of a million Riley's. May God bless his kind heart and giving spirit. Peace.
