A FRIEND IN NEED RIGHT NOW!

  I've been having some real troubles lately. I've needed the closeness of a friend and she wasn't there for me. The result was I felt alone and deserted. I was talking about this today at work and it seems I have a distorted view of what friends are and just how much do I need them. I defended my friends here online bc they are 'always' there for me. Not one time have I ever been left 'alone' or 'deserted'. I can set my lifetime watch on these people. I would bet my life on them. These are the people I 'lean' on and 'need'. Do I 'need' friends to 'lean' on?

     Everything in life must have balance to it in order for things to run at their best. The issue of whether or not I have a need to lean on friends is no different. Leaning completely on someone robs me of my chance to feel my own empowerment and independence. But........without friends, you isolate yourself and when you isolate yourself, problems ALWAYS seem worse than they actually are. The monsters in our minds aren't nearly as big and bad when we bring them out into the light of day.

    I need to start making healthy decisions. I think they are critical to my life and my happiness.

   Everyone needs someone. You are there for them and they are there for you. Don't just give your trust to anyone. Not everyone is worth it. Good friends are a rare gift as I have found out lately.

		Hi there! You're right..trust must be earned. And in the words of my favorite band; "To obtain a bird's eye, is to a blizzard to a breeze" incubus... How true?! Be careful of the words you say....to anyone. Be careful of whom you give your heart to. :)

		ooh, I gotta go with smilinirisheyes on this one...not everyone deserves someone like you in their life. There are those who matter, and there are those who don't. and you are in complete control over that. :) and i seem to be stalking you now, so please don't think i'm a freak. :)

		Your right the "real" friends are RARE gifts! I had this problem around this time last year with someone that I had invested tons of time in (almost 10 years as a matter of fact). For a few months I really needed her to be there for me like I had her. She was too consumed with her own bs to notice how badly I needed someone. She knew it yet had a more important agenda of her own running at the time. Might I add an agenda that was completely self serving. It really showed me her true nature I had ignored for so long. I was at first hurt, then that turned to flat out pissed off in enough passing time. I broke the friendship completely off, left her hanging and wondering why. As if she had to wonder. If she did she was a huge dumbass! It seriously took months from stopping myself from calling her or responding to any email attempts. I felt it for a while but I got over it. I too felt too dependent which was another reason I forced myself to stand on my own feet. And not needing to be held up by her or anyone else any more. Now friendships are more of a bonus instead of a need. Funny how we are taught when times are really hard some people just won't have your back like you did for them!

		Irish, i agree with you very much. I am careful what i say and to whom i say it. A lesson learned the hard way....but i'm over it! LL, I don't think ur stalking me...I'm just a very interesting person...LOL You come around all you want. I enjoy you immensely. :) AD, You are usually right on the money and this is no different. I too went through something similiar and sad to say we are no longer friends either. I'm glad I met you though...we can be the surrogates for each other....Thanks for commenting. 		This is so completely true. It seems that when we go through hardships in our lives we find out who are true friends, and the ones that we wouldn't of ever expected to be there end up being the ones stepping up to the plate. I have to agree, that here on Thoughts, I seem to never feel alone. If you need a friend, I am here! :).
