THE GROTTO OF LOURDES AT MY FINGERTIPS!
i've been speaking with a lot of people lately, a LOT. they have been more help than they will EVER KNOW. like today, i actually bought a newspaper and looked at apartments. i'll do that on a regular basis now until one day MY APARTMENT WILL BE IN THERE. i'll hang tough til then though. we here in my area have a place called THE GROTTO OF LOURDES. it is actually part of the mount saint mary's university but is totally separate from the school itself. it's more a part of the seminary where future priests are born. the grotto resembles the actual grotto of lourdes. it is built into the side of our mountain and has water constantly pouring from this mountain. it never seems to dry up. they say this water is blessed by God himself. over the years they have built more there and i don't mean buildings. they have a cross of Jesus on calvary and you walk up the steps and look down and feel the presence of the Almighty himself. i have never in my life felt closer to the presence of Him as i do there. they built benches into the side of a hill so all can enjoy mass there on sundays and feel like you are at the grotto with bernadette and the blessed mother. you can light a candle or leave a prayer vigil or a prayer request for some special favor there. they have a tiny chapel there as well that may fit 5 or 6 people in it. then there are the stations of the cross that were built of mosaic.  individual artists created each station with tiny pieces of stone to make these beautiful pictures. they are simply exquisite. many years ago vandals messed a few up so now they are encased in protective plexiglass but still very accessible.  they have benches in many places so you can sit and commune with whoever or whatever you want. now that spring is coming the dogwood will be blooming and the laurel will be coming out. the flowers will be springing forward and the smell of the mountain air will just intoxicate you. you will never (in my opinion) be closer to the heavens than you are there. a friend on this site mentioned it and we realized we were practically neighbors. we actually have gone there for basically the same reasons. to be close to something greater than ourselves and feel His presense. and if it cannot happen there then it cannot happen at all. i have gone there at my lowest and at my highest and gotten that feeling of He's with me always. tomorrow when i get off from work i shall go there again. i shall go there to talk to God (even though i am still angry with him). maybe we can settle some things.. maybe He can give me some answers that i desparately need about my life and whats going on in it. i will light a candle and sit and wait for the silence to come and the calmness to enter.  i will wait for my answers and i will pray. i will ask for the hatred to be taken from my heart to be replaced by understanding and love. i will ask for the bitterness to be taken from my soul and to be replaced with sweetness and forgiveness. i will ask for an apartment of my own. i will ask for my future. i will ask for safety, protection, and an enormous amount of courage. i will ask for my life. i think i will find answers there. i am not by any means a "religious nut" but i am a believer in the greater good of things. i am a believer in people. and i am a believer (although it hasn't shown lately) of myself. this place in the side of my mountain is magical. it's mystic powers are immense and it's blessings are insurmountable. this is as close to God or heaven i will come while here on earth. peace and harmony

From your description I think I would want to take my children there instead of Roma, Italy.

to nubian and hollis: it is a most awesome place and never closer to the things we want and pray to. omg, if you could only see, its atop this mountain and high above you can see from literally miles away the gold statue of the blessed virgin. she looks like shes standing on top of the mt. it's a breathtaking sight coming up the highway beckoning you to come visit. and the peace i find there is just enormous. i had forgotten about it when i was in my dark place but today i found it again and it's just as spiritual as i knew it would be. like i said i'm certainly no "religious" person per se but this grotto is as close to God as i'll ever get while here on earth.
