Another day is winding down and I'm just sitting here watching my three year old bouncing on my couch and my older boy lying on the floor watching ICarly. I sure love to see my children happy and healthy. Today began a bit darker with heavy rain for most of the morning, a reminder of our needs as well as things existant that don't necessarily correspond to what we would like. This had me thinking about the impact our language seems to have on some concepts, but not necessarily all. We seem to utilize and use the words that correspond to our short term or emotional status for long term status as well. This seems to lead not only to a misleading situation, but to poor analysis of our functioning over time. To use the word 'happy' for anything other than a short term emotional state is really going to convey the wrong information. Over the long term we use words like contentment, however, this is also likely to misconvey also. We lack a vocabulary for long term status that sufficiently decribes the greater depth and complexity complexity required. We are stuck patching a decription of this information with words intended for other means.
