 Courage is.....
Truth in love is a bullet of courage for the speaker, but no matter how gentle the delivery it may splatter on impact. Still, as a friend, we have to brave it sometimes.
                                                                                                MJ Hawkins

Some times we must have courage to uphold our convictions. Some times we must suffer to uphold our convictions. I believe if a person ( myself included) makes an effort to accept responsibility for their (ours mine) life. We thrive rather than decline. Looking at the lives' of some of the great names in history I 'll try to support my stance. But remember I will stand alone if need be,  but I will stand.

In no particular order...
Ben Franklin.   An inventor and a statesman, a womanizer too, but our flaws and choices don't make up the whole person. He was an ambassador, writer, scientist, and hurmourist.

Muhatma Ghandi, lawyer, Head Of State, Reformer, pureist, self effaceing, a writer, a wise man. Also an extremist at times. We need the flaws of balance and a to grow us as long as we live.

Eleanor Roseveldt, hard working, good mother, patient, kind, overcame fear and much  more  to becpome a world speaker. Advocate for handicap (as it used to be called in her day) persons, children, poor women, and more. First Lady three times. She was weak willed often when it came to other women in her life.... and though very homeley she had grace and humility,  over humilliation to her credit.

Mom, not mother by birth but the stronger bond of adoption, a definate choice.
Mom is in her eighties, Blind in one eye and as she says "can't see out of the other, much either lol", when she cries and complains it's usally in private. She has a bad heart, bad spinal problems, diabetes and its' kidney issues, and some arthritus. She still lives on her own for the most part, tends her small dog, walks that dog, and does some very nice greeting cards. She raised five kids with a husband she eventually had to care for, for many,  many, years. She fostered so many other kids too! She made a lot of scarifices to give us all better than average educations. What a woman! What a person!!
Mom was  highly opinonated, and like a  WWll Bomber coming in on landing if you were  on the runway she'd make you hit the deck, or take the impact. Either way you were always sure where exactly where she stood. (better than hidden agenda I suppose)

So there is a short line up. I can't talk about my dad I'd wear out my pc before I was finished. Sufice it to say, he was less than perfect but honorable and  as a Just as any man on the planet since Jesus, usually sported a rough haircut lol and taught me to want to be Just. He was  an excellent Fire Fighter and respected if not loved by so many. He is my hero in real life.

It seems there is sufficient role models to learn from in history and present day  as well we might have to search harder to locate them these days but they're out there.

Maybe if I stand ready to be rebuked when needed, lifted by success and spurred on by failure, and keep loving my fellow man and The Living God. I 'll have enough courage to finish my life  and say I did my best to live as Just as I knew how.

Hi! Liked your post...undoubtedly, a lot of courage is necessary to stick to your beliefs like a rock, because there will definitely be times when your courage will be tried and exhausted and you might fail to hold onto your beliefs. But I was just wondering - what if at one stance some of your beliefs are proved to be unworthy (of strongly holding onto)? Do people re-adjust or make slight alterations to their beliefs to suit their courage, when it's at the risk of failing?

Aphrodite :) I don't know about others but since I've had to adjust things over the years to either strengthen or let go of something.... I personally, pray, do a very serious search, then I pray again. The answers come. Somethings are instantly in a new light. Good fruit invites close inspection, Bad fruit must also be equally inspected but there is little or no invitation to inspect it closely. Do you understand??

Your comment confused me a little. I wasn't referring to those unworthy beliefs that one might change slightly as something 'bad'. It's just that a lot of incidents might make you realise that your beliefs weren't worth holding onto, they didn't make you happy in the end. Or perhaps they have exhausted your courage and stamina. What do you do then? Do you still stick to them?

Do my beliefs give me sustained contentment & satisfaction? Yes they do. I have a relationship, with a Living Supreme Being, a personal to me, Savior, Holy Ever present & ever available... When I find myself exhausted, or losing stamina I go to the source of my faith, ans seek the nature of the dilemma. I will soon know if I am out of balance physically, emotionally or spiritually. Have I taken on tasks that were not mine? Did I try to use my own feeble awareness to push around some Divine goal for me in my life? These are the kinds of things that bring stress and illness.

Happiness is a choice daily. I can draw happiness from constant Joy. Joy comes from the rightness of my relationship with Jesus, and trust in the Father and the Holy Spirit. Having looked and tried and tasted other beliefs, I found this the only one that could not only stand by itself, but support me as well. Yes I stick with my beliefs. To the death if need be. I stand upon a solid eternal foundation.
