TALKING OVER THE WORDS
As you might leave left-overs for a dog
so we leave nothing to chance
If nothing's known without an opposite
& nothing's as clear as we'd like
then nothing's here but these words
& there's nothing you can't read into them
I've been following your breath
around & through all these expressions
Some people think the discourse in their brains
is smarter than the rest of their bodies
Words may be things so we see them all over
but they're not the things they say they are
We talk over how plants are growing in words
We talk over coffee with more words
We talk over what they're saying on the news
We talk over the music we'd like to hear more of
We mean to keep talking over nothing special
Nothing intrigues us more than each other
Some words are living beings
you can tell by the way they grow
a little each time they come to mind
Let's make up a new language
one without a vocabulary
so we can talk over the words in silence
