I love Christmas time, absolutely love all the magic-ness of it all. How people crawl out of the wood work to help each other, even if that changes as soon as Jan. begins. Even though I am mostly Martha Stewart this time of year, I can also be a bit of a scrooge about somethings.
Mainly I just don't understand how people can contradict themselves so often in the 12th month of every year. Donate to the Salvation Army yet refuse to acknowledge that starvation still lives in the heart of America. People make me mad. Sick more like. Stuff their children full of chocolate and fill their greedy little hands with laptops, Wii's, etc. and still say that the Vietnam Vet. with no home to call his own deserves to be where he is, sleeping on that local park bench.
Every year I adopt a family-except this year because I truley cannot afford it. I am not working, I have a wedding coming up and there is no money or spare food to be found here. And I feel like such a failure for not being able to change circumstances for someone, even if it was only for one day.
So, if not for you and not for them, then for me-the next time you see a shiny red bucket or a child in need (and if you can financially without throwing yourself in the perils of debt) please do something. Donate, help, volunteer. I would like to wrap myself in the dillusion that even though I was unable, my friends here stepped up and filled in for me this one time.
Just some ramblings from a near-psychotic. So, if you do as I ask, thank you so much. And if you don't, well-I hope you feel a twinge of shame if you were able and chose not to.

I know exactly how you feel. I actually have a bag of stuff I'm going to take to a womens shelter or a battered women's shelter. The problem is finding one. They are so private that I am having a hard time getting them someplace.
My heart goes out to those who are less fortunate - next year I hope to be better apt financially to really help a family out.

Thanks guys. Raj, I know exactly where you are-I've been there myself for my little sis when my mom couldn't do it. Good luck.

I can't stand Christmas myself...
But I still give, and give year round I do, twenty bucks a paycheck to the local homeless shelter/cafe.

I only feel so strongly because I was that kid who went without and no one seemed to notice.
Frankly, you are quite the man. No wonder your lady was looking at rings ;)
MikeMike-I'm not laughing, Aaron has a Wii too. I just think kids are so caught up in what the latest thing to have is, that they forget what could be and what is reality for some people.

LG, I was never one for huge gifts at Christmas, a homemade card, havin' family over & eatin' dinner, was enough for me...People nowadays it makes me sad, they are losin' the meanin' of Christmas. I bet some don't even know what a 'north star' represents...But, Salvation Army doesn't do it once a year, they are their workin' 365/24/7. Isn't it sad, that most people will lose their spirit come Jan...*shakes head*
