| My Breaking Dawn Reaction (spoiler warning)
|
|
|
I recently finished Breaking Dawn, and I had to rant about it somewhere, so guess what? Here is as good a place as any.
My first reaction: What the heck? Did Stephenie Meyer write this? It didn't sound like Bella at all. I still can't put my finger on it, but I couldn't draw any connections between the Bella in the first three books and Bella in Breaking Dawn. I think it might be that most of the book was narrative, and hardly any of it focused on Bella's thoughts and emotions like the other three did. Maybe it's the fact that all of Bella's insecurities disappeared. But, whatever it was, I couldn't pick out the Bella I have come to know from the Bella in Breaking Dawn. Yeah, she's a vampire, but so what? She's still supposed to be Bella.
My next reaction: RENESMEE??!?!! Come on, would anyone really inflict that kind of embarrassment on their own child? *grumbles to self*
I really hated the fact that Renesmee was born in the first place. It seemed like a huge cop-out on Stephenie's part. Everything is so easily resolved because of this little girl. It bugged me. A lot.
Reaction #3: Jacob, Jacob, Jacob! I loved the whole second part of the book when he was narrating. At least he was happy with Renesmee. But I wanted him to be with Bella. This kind of ties in with the Renesmee part, but why would he be in love with Bella if he was really waiting for Bella's daughter? Again, it seems like a cop-out. Renesmee solves every single problem there is. Blech.
Reaction the fourth: I wanted Cullens&Friends to take out the Volturi!! The whole fight was building up and everything, and it seemed like there would be a huge battle, and then... it just flopped. Talk about anticlimactic. I was ready for some good tearing-apart-of-the-bad-guys. *sigh* I guess not.
My fifth and final reaction: Edward was always Mr. Mysterious to me. He never seemed real in the physical sense; it was like he was a dream. But then, all of a sudden, he's a normal person in this book. Maybe it's just me, and I have a weird perception of him, but, nevertheless, I was disappointed. I wanted my mysterious, dreamy Edward to make a reappearance.
I'll probably love Breaking Dawn when I re-read it, but all I can think of now is, "It didn't make any sense compared to the other three." No one probably agrees with me, but at least I got my rant over with.

Wow...I agree with you completely (except for the Bella should be with Jacob part)!! I was wondering if I was the only one feeling disappointed...when my husband asked if I liked it, I recited your list EXACTLY. I have issues with this final book. I am totally disappointed...although, I was also thinking the second time around it may be different...

I was a little disapponited as well...But, you have to think that Bella is a vampire now. She mentioned that she still felt like she had some traits as she did in her human life.. Bella annoyed me when she was clumsly. She was a lot better. I agree that the name for their child was better. And I dont like Jacob never have. Edward was her soul mate. I think they could have fought. But, Bella's power was quite awesome and combined with the others they would have won. I think that the baby was a great twist I didn't see that coming in the fourth book.

I am sorry but i loved the book but i totally agree with you about the fight with the volturi...i totally wanted Jane and Demetri to be taken OUT. i also agree that she could have thought of a better name for her daughter. i actually thought right away that as soon as she knew she was pregnant that Jacob would end up imprinting with her baby-there was just too much information regarding imprinting with a child in the previous books...i have read it twice already and i can only think that she left the volturi intact for future books which i hope come soon! i am looking forward to more Edward!

Ohh My Gosh! i commmmpppppletley agree with you! I would probably have to say that in general i hated it, but if i re-read it, i might not get a foot thrown into my gut reaction (not pleasant...)
A BABY! jacob imprinting on said baby! Volutir sukkish stand off! gosh the list goes on!
RENESME!!!!!!!!! ohh my god i was like, has Bella gone off her rock? i mean she was crazy when she was thinking of names, but are you serious! i know Stephenie Meyer thinks of them as people in her head and she is the scribe recording their actions but i think she should have thougt about the names before she published it.
Allso, the whole plot seemed off, and when i was talking to my best friend about it (she was uber pissed) i mean, it seems like something that an ubsessed fan would write for fanfiction, net! has she lost her mind? a baby that slowly killed bella, and then grew at an abnormal rate! the imortal child was ok.
but this one line killed me (Edward to Jacob before loooser fight) "Goodbye my brother, friend, my SON!!!" god! they went from being worst frenemies to son and father in law!!!!!!!! your killing me Stephenie!
PLUS the whole vampires from around the globe is a wee bit much
i am a critic, so i might be over harsh but i thought that it could have been better writeen beter

i could not agree with you more. the entire plot line was forced with stephanie's incessant need for a happy ending. the first conclusion i jumped to when bella's side effects included exsessive eating and restlessness was that she was a werewolf, and i was actually quite delighted and excited as to how she would force a happy ending into that. (team jacob!!) but to my dismay, it was a BABY. uck. the fact that her decision to have jacob imprint on renesme is hugely disappointing, and like you said, a giant copout. maybe stephanie dug herself into a hole with all the problems and diffuculties she faced her characters with, but her use of the the baby to solve all their problems, was again, disappointing.
this book does not compare with the her first three, im sad to say.

I agree and disagree on some points (started and finished series in 5 days)I am ecstatic that Bella chose Edward. There was nothing about Jacob that I liked in the first 3 books. However, at first when I started his POV part of the book I was mad, since I don't like him. But then he was hysterically funny. Just the titles of the chapters made me laugh outloud. I am a sucker for sarcasm. When it comes to the baby portion of the book, I was completely angry! I am a hopeless romantic and at that point I was continuously tortured, the whole situation portrayed Edward in such a hopeless and weak light, I wasn't happy about that at all.
The fight scene would have been so much more exciting if there actually was one, but I couldn't have parted with any of the main characters, yet if she wouldn't have killed any of them that would have just been ubsurd. The ending was quite abrupt and left me hanging. Doubt her intentions of continuing series due to reference of "the end" and the last page

Really, I have been Team Edward all the way since the first time he was described. I ♥ Edward, he is my fave character. I hated Jake in the third book, but I liked him in the first two. And I loved him in the end of BD.
I love the idea of a half-vampire baby, and Renesmee is a cool name to me. I'm glad that Bella and Edward got to have a family after all, plus keep Jake. What can I say? I'm a sucker for happy endings. And I love writing fanfics that continue where a happy ending finished (i'm making one that takes place 6 yrs after BD).
I didn't really get Alice leaving. That didn't make a lot of sense. And I think Benjamin should have stayed and become a Cullen. I really don't like Amun. Stupid possesive Egyptian vamp.
I like that Jazz got to know Bells betterer. He was always kinda distant.
I expected the Denalis to be kind of malicious due to the whole Irina-wouldn't-help-them-because-the-werewolves-killed- Laurent incident. I mean, they could have helped anyways. Whatever.

ok the way i see it the book was good i mean the plot was great and i THINK I KN why people were like WTF with bella as a vampire
ok in regards to the first reaction
IT WAS HARD TO CONECT TO BELLA CUS SHE WAS NOT HUMAN!!!!!! that is why it did not sound like the bella we love
second reaction
renesmee is a bad name but her name is simbolic
3#
i love jakee also and the second book was a twist
4#
ok it would have been so expected for there to be a fight like everyone of the books had a fight. so it was a good thing the the voltury and them did not it was unexpected. the fact that they did not fight shoues that SM has a talent

yeh i agree with a lot of this except that bella and jacob should be together. no ive always been on team edward. bella seemed like a completly different person when she became a vampire, her awkwardness and stuff all gone, NO NO NO! i couldnt relate to her anymore. also there wasnt enough descriptions of edward and his godliness. i definetly agree that he didnt seem mysterious anymore in this book.
the baby twist, all i can say is what the hell? my friend told me she thought that would happen but like NO NO NO! so weird, and the name even worse!
it just so annoyed me when rosalie and bella got all matey with eachother and i felt like crying seeing edward so beaten up and desperate that he asked jacob to have a child with bella.......too far! that ruined the whole point of eclipse and the whole edward-jacob conflict....ruined it i say!!
im glad of the ending, it had to be happy and im glad jacob got over his bella obsession but imprinting on the daughter, which was so so wrong in the first place, why? that daughter thing was soooo wrong. and the releationship between edward and renesemee was so distant, he didnt even seem to care for hr, definetly that relationship needed to be developed.
ok now i feel bad for ranting but i needed to get that all of my chest!
otherwise i think SM did the best she could and she just wanted to please al her fans, but for me the sexual tension of the last 3 books just disappeared and the whole point of the 'edward must not kill bella' thing just vanished and i miss that! im sticking to twilight!

To me, the whole book was a big disappointment. The first three books were all about the romance between Bella and Edward. That ended way too fast at the beginning of the book once they were married. I didn't feel connected to Bella the way I did in the first three books. I miss the clumsy, awkward, very human Bella that I loved so much more than the Vampire one. The whole series was about Bella and Edward. The love between a human and a vampire and all of the complications it created. That was what the WHOLE series was about! And then Breaking Dawn comes out and BAM! Goodbye to that plot which ends much too quickly as Meyer begins a completely random one. I felt like I was reading very bad fan fiction most of the time!
Another thing was that Bella was just oh SO sure that her baby would be a boy. I figured that would lead somewhere in the end.... but nope. She was just wrong? The climax with the Volturi was very very disappointing. It lead up to absolutely nothing. No big dramatic fight, just a "well, we'll just be on our way now that we've talked it out. Have a lovely day!". I knew that as soon as a character was "sure" of something, that it wasn't going to happen. Jacob and Edward were sure the baby would kill Bella. Nope. Bella just KNEW that they would all die at the end. Nope.
And the whole thing with Renesmee being the "only one of her kind" and then finding out there were more? I don't know. It seemed so random after all of that.
I felt that the characters were lost. Emmett seemed the only one that really acted himself in this book. I don't know what was up with Edward. Bella went totally crazy and wanted to die to have her baby. I lost the whole human Bella that I actually liked for a perfect gorgeous Bella with a way too convenient power. I still don't like Rosalie, and I can't figure out if Meyer wanted the reader to or not. She was on Bella's side, which, could have been bad, but it was what Bella wanted. What???
I'm still disappointed that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee (which is the worst name ever by the way). Bella did admit to loving him in a romantic way at the end of Eclipse, no? I do understand that she wished they were family at an early point but... what? The Edward-Bella-Jacob triangle thing was wrapped up too fast as well. I expected Jacob to imprint on Tanya. I would've like that much better. They still could've been family, but without there ever having to be a Renesmee.
The only part of the book that I definatley loved was the last few pages where Edward could finally read Bella's thoughts and definatley knew how much she loved him. Also, that reminded me that there actually WAS a romance between them because it seem so so lost during the book. So kudos to Meyer on the ending. But that's all.
If only Meyer would rewrite the book so that it would would continue the plot from the other ones...
Over all.... it was a gigantic horrible disappointment!!!

LOL. so i'm getting that you're definitely a team jacob. (:
i totally agree with you on that it didn't sound like a twilight
book at all.
in general;; i'm not going to lie;; i liked it.
it was just TOTALLY shocking to me about the baby part;;
and i'm psychic i swear;; i just KNEW jacob was going to imprint on the baby.
but i AM really happy that they can all be together now;; and that jacob
finally found someone to love.
it DID bother me as well that Renesmee was SUCH a huge impact on EVERYONE
and all of a sudden everything was okay because of her. NO child can have
that kind of effect on someone. yess;; VERY bothering.
overall i thought it was great;; it just DID NOT feel like
a twilight book at all. i felt like i was reading something else.
even the first chapter of midnight sun feels more "twilight" then this.
:)

I like Nessie as her name better. Even though, honestly, EDWARD JACOB?!?!? WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING?!?! What if Renesmee was a boy?? Imagine how insanely awkward that would have been!
And I honestly don't get why Bella made such a big deal about Jacob imprinting on Nessie. At least now he is family!
Either way, I'm glad it's out already. No more freaking out about how many days are left and such.

Jennyyyxbby- I agree. I think that only a Jacob-fan would hate the book. And also, it WAS obvious that Jake would imprint on Nessie- they made SUCH a big deal out of his imprinting on someone, and after he tried to force it and it didn't work, I was just like "Well Jake, looks like you're stuck with Bella and Edward's kid." And Wa-la. It is done.
Seriously though, alot of the book seemed like Steph didn't write it. And the romance was totally lost in some parts.
Go Team Edward!!! ♥♥♥
