So we went on our first camping trip and it was a great success. Charlotte did wonderfuly and seems to love being outside and eating rocks.
She stayed Friday night with my parents and went down to Pueblo with them. Then Shawn and I followed when I got off of work at 4. We brought the dogs and never will again. We made it to Pueblo around 7:30 I beleve and got everything set up just fine, had some hotdogs, gave Charlotte a sponge bath, bundled her up and put her to bed. The grown ups sat around the campfire with the Bakers for a little while before turning in themselves.
Now, as far as Mom tells me, Charlie slept very well, except she wouldn't keep her little hands covered and they got really cold. I know Shawn and I were cold. We let our sissy dogs cuddle in the extra blankets. Around 6am I went to the trailer to see how things were to find three heads poking out of the blankets. Charlotte was quite comfy, warm and sound asleep. I know my parents were not (sleeping anyways). Kudos to them for letting her sleep in the trailer with out us.
Sunday morning we went out on the Bakers' speed boat. Dad had bought Charlotte a lifejacket and she was very cute in it. She also slept for the first hour. After lunch George blew up "Big Bertha," the inner-tube they pull behind the boat with people on it. The boys (George and Kay's grandsons) went out first and then Shawn convinced me to go. He says he'd never been before and I wasn't going to be the one to deny him a new experience, so I went. Luckily it wasn't too wild and crazy. That water was COLD!!!!
Shawn, Charlie and I got off the boat early and went back to camp. I tried to put Charlotte down for another nap but she wasn't having it, so we blew up the little wading pool Mom brought with her. That was a chore, and in the meantime, the wind picked up and our tent blew over. Charlotte had lots of fun splashing in the water for about 15 minutes then found the rocks outside of it and decided they were way more interesting (and tastey).
The tent was an adventure I could have lived without. One of the poles broke so we went to Walmart to see about a new tent. While there we found a new tent pole that worked perfectley and saved us some money. We put the tent back up when the wind died down and all was well again, untill midnight.
Everyone was prepared for another cold night with extra layers and blankets. And then it wasn't cold! But boy did the wind blow!! It woke us up around 12 and kept us up until around 3. Shawn and I were esspecilly worried because of the earlier mishap. The dogs were scared with the noise and flaping sides but the tent stood strong.
Now during the tent fiasco, Shawn was upset that he wasn't going to get to fish. It's something he really enjoys and was looking forward to the most. So Monday morning Shawn, Dad and I got dressed and hiked down to the lake with our gear and threw out our lines. I'm not sure how long we were there before Dad fell in the lake, but he did and did it well. (I think he'll besure to bring another pair of shoes from now on) Soon after he left to dry out, both Shawn and I caught a fish! I haven't caught anything in years. So although it wasn't a very long fishing trip, it was a worthwhile one.
A pancake breakfast and packing up finnished off our trip. We were hoping to swim at the Baker's pool that afternoon, but we arrived in Denver to chilly, rainy weather and headed back to Fort Collins (where it was also raining)
We made a pitstop in Greeley to help Shawn's parents hook up thier TV/DVD and computer, and to see how the new house was coming along. Charlotte has lots of new places to explore there. They're yet to get a fence and sod for the backyard however.
One of the other pictures posted of Charlotte and I is Charlie learning to walk! I have been just holding her hands and swingin her so her legs would move like walking, but Wednsday she moved them on her own. And she was so excited! We showed Daddy when he got home from work and wouldn't let us stop the whole night (except at bathtime of course). I'm excited for her and not ready at the same time!
Shawn went back to work (after the tornado) on Wednsday. They were on generator power Wednsday and got regular power restored on Thursday. They can't drink the water though, it's contaminated. But Kodak brought in bottled water for them. Shawn's building didn't recieve much damage, luckily. But 1/2 a mile west (the Carestream part of the compound) did, and some cars were overturned. He hasn't seen our friend Heather yet to asker her how things have gone for her. Some of the Kodak employees have posted pictures on KodakGallery.com, if anyone's interested (or unhealthily obssesed like me).
Other than spending too much time looking at Windsor pictures, I've finnaly made my appointment to see the rhumatologist. It's June 27th, a month away. And that was the soonest I could get in! But it's schedualled.
We send all our love to everyone,
Karen, Shawn and Charlotte
