| a LONG house update for those inquiring minds .... |
ok so ..... here's what's going on with the house ....
Jake and i have to have a painter come in to paint the house because the appraisal back from june said there was lead paint detected. it wasn't taken care of however, so we were given money to pay someone to come paint it for us and get it done right, as well as pay a liscensed paint inspector to come in and check it out afterwords.
so, in our quest to find a painter, we got a few referrals from friends/aquaintances...
the first guy we had come down to our house, we had a bad feeling about from the start. to give a little info, the walls on our house are plaster, and when they crack it's a little bit of a job to repair, not impossible, but it takes time.
the guy looked at it and said "well if you want to remove this border on top of the walls.... dig out these cracks so i can just plaster them.... then you guys can sand it down for me ..... that'd be best for me.
" um ..... what?? and then he actually SAID this ... no lie ... we looked at him and kind of in a questioning way, and he was like 'well you guys would do about 80% of the work and i can do the other 20%, and i could knock a little off of the price..." ..... ok, i'm PAYING YOU to do the work ... not for me to do the work and you put a cherry on top. dumbass.
and then when we asked him when he would be able to work he went on to tell us that he has HIS own house to do first .... and then he would call us on sunday (which he never did by the way) to set up a time for him to come down because that would leave us time to do "our share of the work." EXCUSE ME?! what a dumbass .... if this is what you do for a living, you don't put other people after yourself ... and if you do, you don't actually say it. just say that you have "another job" that you're working on and should be done by the end of the week....... sheesh.
then right before he left, he was like "if you guys wanna just give me a spare then i can let myself in and start when i'm ready.
" ..... yea .... like that's going to happen ......
so .... OBVIOUSLY we weren't going to use him .... so, the next lead came from a guy Jake goes to church with .... he's a prof. painter so he gave him a call and the guy came down a couple days later ....
he looks at the crack in the wall and told me flatout, that he's really sorry he waisted my time, but that he doesn't fix cracks like that ..... that he doesn't have the patience to do it, and that if he ended up doing it, it wouldn't be a very good job .... he said he really needed the money, but he wasn't going to charge us for a job half-done, so while i appreciated his honesty, i was still bummed because i had to find yet another person to paint.....
{{{{{{{ all this time i'm looking for a painter, i'm trying to think of people who would be able to fix that crack ..... otherwise, find someone to fix the crack, get a painter, and then, once i find a painter, i have to get a carpet guy (whom i had in line but couldn't give him a date to start until i knew when the painting would be done) and then i have to get a lead paint inspector in after all of this crap is finally done .... and pray to god everything is taken care of ..... it's quite a hassle if you can't tell ..... }}}}}}}
so ... the next thing i do is call jake's dad to see if he can fix the cracks .... he is remodeling his basement right now, but i was hoping he could at least let me know what kind of putty/wall cement/plaster to buy to fix the wall and maybe even show me how to do it ...... yea ..... he's still not happy that we're moving in together .... so needless to say, that was a bust......
at this point i am frustrated beyond all belief and on the verge of tears because i'm just irritated as heck .... so what do i do?? i call my mommy .... darn right ....
she gives me the name of the guy who remodeled the place she works. she says that he does carpet, drywall, paint, plumbing, the whole deal. so my thought is, if i can get all of this stuff done and not have to call a separate carpet guy and get this all done in one big swoop, then that would help out just soo much ...
so i call him .... he actually had that afternoon off and said "well, i'm available this afternoon to come see it! i can be there in an hour!" so i'm like "sweet!!" .... he comes down and is just this real sweet older gentlemen. i didn't get the feeling that he was a dumb@$$ like the first guy, and he turned out to be much more professional, but still very down to earth. we went through the house room by room and i told him everything that i wanted done. he took it all down and said he would call me back monday. and, once again, unlike the first guy, he did! lol. he gave me pricing for each room, paint and carpet, and let me talk the price over with jake for a bit and then call him back. turns out we only had to eliminate putting the bathroom floor in (( which sucked but we didn't have the funds to pay for it.... at least not for now )) but everything else was ok. the only sucky part is that he can't start until friday .... which originally i had hoped that he could start today and be done at least by next tuesday ... but oh well.... he said it should take the better part of a week to complete. and while i am still going to have to provide a key, i don't feel nearly as edgy about it.... their company is bonded to, which helps calm my nerves.(( meaning if anything in there turns up missing or broken, they are responsible for reimbursing us for it.....)). Not to mention, once they are all done we are adding deadbolt locks to the doors so they still won't be able to get in even if a copy is made, but i have a feeling i can trust this guy....
WOOSH ....that was LONG!!! (( told ya it would be)) .....
but now ya'll know what's going on ....

oh, jake and i were able to paint the kitchen ourselves, and it looks SOO much better!! i can't wait to post all of the "After" remodeling pics in here once everything is all done ..... now there is no more orange kitchen!!! yay!!!!!!!!
