Ok. So math night wasn’t that bad. I had hurt my back so I felt guilty I couldn’t help set up more. I don’t know if I expected the room to be ready or what, but I was not prepared to move furniture. My booth was a dud. No body was interested. I had Miguel’s poster blocking me in one direction and Alex stealing other custies from another. Remind me to never compete against Alex. He is ruthless when it comes to carnivals.
I guess I felt a little anxious, but I was so out of it, I had no time to have a panic attack. I should have eaten because halfway through I abandoned my station in search of candy. I learned a lot more than I expected. I was not as terrified by the strangers and I actually got great insight into parent-child dialogue. Though one lady asked me if I had any activities for Kindergarteners. I hadn’t the heart to tell her, her child couldn’t complete a Kindergarten investigations activity.
Many of the older students acted too cool for my pattern block booth. I noticed a turn around once students got about 7th or 8th grade level. It was almost like they were excited to play with simple materials. Like they were revisiting their past. I thought it was really enduring.
