Some people think living in jakarta is fun. Jakarta as the capital of Indonesia had grown as the most populated city in Indonesia, bring a lot of problems and phenomenals things.
This time I try to show, how Jakarta is about from my point of view.

Every year Jakarta grow older and older, rules by One governor to another governor. But, the reality still the same. Even get worst from time to time. Many dissappointments i feel toward jakarta this past few years. This year, 2008, nothing change to my dissapointments. Still the same old problems remain unsolved.
The problems that remain unsolved:
1. Flood.
If only they pay serious attention for this problem. They make jakarta a better place to live. Local governor seem doesnt care about this problem, they tend to ignore, eventhough the last time, its happened on February 1, 2008, most parts of Jakarta almost drowned only by 1-whole day raining.
Even "the" new governor promised to solve this flood during his campaigned to won the "fair election" (I almost didnt vote, because the election team didnt really do their "work").
Its the same scenario for this unsolved prolem, such as:

  • The east & west canals drainase isnt finish yet.( i thought they never build one anyway),
  • The river & drainase all around Jakarta are full of garbages, so the rain just cant flow to the ocean.
  • Jakarta is too crowded of concrete wall, so there are enough water absorbance space anymore.
What confuses me is that, they already knew all the main causes, but, still no master plan to overcome this situation.
If u notice all the Tv stations and newspapers in jakarta headlines are about flood in anypart in jakarta, flood victims (mostly high populated neighboringhood). Even the access to and from airport had block for few days. This situation is so contradictive to Indonesian goverment plan which is VISIT INDONESIA 2008.

2. Traffic
Everyone who live in Jakarta would experience traffic, even in small access to main road. Except if you live in small alley ( and not going out for the rest of your life).
I notice the traffic causes by the indisipline behavior of public transportation picking up & droping the passagers. As we know the principle of "customer is a king".
The Police and the local goverment never implement the rule that will disipline them in doing their bussiness.
I wonder why Singaporean has more disipline than us (indonesian), the mind set/ the way of thinking is too worst. The main set of " we are the poor people, only try to find some money to feed our family", so, that's make you have a right to stop suddenly picking up or droping passagers, and cause a traffic queue of 10 cars??? I dont think so.....

That's all i think about My jakarta right now, my major dissapointments of my beloved Jakarta, the city which i was born 27 years ago. How many years more, should I wait to have my jakarta become orgonized and Clean???

I'm sorry to hear about flood and traffic problems in Jkt. One thing that every one in Jkt can contribute to reduce the chance of flooding is by not throwing rubbish in public places, drainage or rivers. Perhaps the local government should issue fines or community service/kerja bakti to clean the city for those caught throwing rubbish everywhere (similar to Singapore).
