 Thank God I'm a guy!
I constantly remind people that I'm so happy that I was born a male. Things as a male are so much easier than some of the things that women have to go through. Menstral cycles, wondering if you look fat in that dress, hair color, the list goes on and on. Obviously I left out one of the biggest reasons that I'm so happy to be a guy...pregnancy and birth. I consider myself a fairly tough guy. I'm no fighter, but if I need to...well, you get the idea. However, after spending nine months with a woman who is growing in places and ways that few ever do, I know that God smiled down on me when he made me a male. It is amazing the things that change once a woman becomes pregnant. Everything from the size of the hips to the frequency of their bowel movements now becomes typical conversation throughout the day. She now begins to outgrow her clothes, so where do you think she turns next? My stuff. At first she's mad because she can't fit in her clothes and mine were too big. By the eighth month, even my clothes were getting small on her. I was an athlete from the time I came out of the womb. My parents owned a small sporting goods store, so naturally I had sports in my blood. I played football, hockey and baseball for as long as I can remember and suffered my fair share of injuries. I played through most all of the aches and pains, but none of the pain that I felt could even be considered pain after watching Roni go through labor. It was amazing. She's not a very large girl, and has been know in the past as being quite a princess about things. So to see her be such a trooper for two and a half hours worth of pushing just reminds me just how much of a wuss I really am. But through all of the changes, all of the times when her gas was worse than mine, the baby classes at the hospital that grossed me out and then put me to sleep, all of the mood swings, and all of the times that I was wrong (usually for no reason), it was so worth it. We've got a beautiful little pork chop of a baby boy and so far he is healthy. The actual birth is something that everyone should at least get to be there to see how amazing the whole process is. Just as long as it's not me giving birth.
