but I am entirely passionate about racial tensions and issues.
I'm not trying to be black, I AM BLACK. Numbnuts. There is no right or wrong way to go about attaining this. I wake up every morning in the same skin. I speak with a certain accent and infliction and in an intelligent manner, I listen to certain kinds of music, and as such I associate with certain kinds of people.
There were a lot of people infuriated by the Jena Six case and someone recently said to me that it would be even worse if something like that were to happen to me. What he meant to say was that if someone that walks, talks, and acts white were subjected to racism it would be even worse. This troubled me greatly. Is it more acceptable that the african american that sat under that tree and was consequently threatened by the hanging of the noose on said tree was what we would call "ghetto"? I'm sure you know what I mean; he's country as hell, can't string together a proper sentence, walks around with bling, and screaming about bitches and hos. Of course I'm comparing to extremes, but with good reasons. I just wanted to set the tone; I am quite the opposite of "ghetto" and most people joke around that I'm the whitest girl that they know. I also have be known to say this, jokingly of course. It just saddens me to think that some people, harmless as it may seem, seem to think that there are people that are kind of "asking" to be targeted by racism and prejudice.
It hurts when people don't think that I'm "black" enough. I feel as though I don't live up to some stereotypical persona. We (meaning all races) have fought so hard to break stereotypes and maintain individuality. Hell, this country thrives on individuality! I have experienced more racism and prejudice from african americans than any other race. This unfortunately includes my own family. People tend to want to make me conform to that lovely black stereotype. I think that everyone is disgusting these days, and no one likes to deal with their own shit. There aren't only white racists in the worlse. While that sounds like it would be common knokwledge, it's not accepted by many social circles.
I am, who I am. I listen to country and all kinds of rock'n'roll, I watch SciFi, VH1, and MTV, I HATE rap unless I'm dancing. Does any of this make me less of what I am? I don't think so.

As long as you know who you are,,, don't be concerned with others and their ignorance. I know it can probably get irritating, but don't let others confuse you. Just because you like country music that doesn't make you white. Plus, how many white people do you know like rap and r&b? Plenty... so, do you... Forget what everybody has to say. DO YOU. Find you a circle of friends that who accept you for you, white talking, country listening, black face and all....

I HATE rap, R n B and country:P --except for some of the artists. Ever notice how the good looking people have not so great music but the ugly as heck have great songs?:P I applaud and adore your defiant fury with stereotyping and fear for your rebellion against the overwhelming masses against you. Stay strong...just don't get too hard headed that you can't let anyone in.
