| Decisions, decisions - Where Shall We Stay When We
|

Picardy is usually our region of choice, probably for no other reason than the campsite of choice is sited there. My personal preference would be Fontainebleau (which is in Ile de France) but sadly the site we used via Keycamp is no longer used by them. It is now an independent site and you must book direct.
Having said Fontainebleau is my site of choice, it doesn't have the facilities that the one in Aisne has. In fact, it has none of them apart from a (cold water) swimming pool which is great in the middle of summer, and a bar. The bar does double up as a basic take away in the evenings and serves warm, fresh bread and croissant in the mornings though which eaten together with jam and cheese bought from the local supermarket, is a must have for breakfast when in France. You quite often see the French walking along the pavement first thing in the morning with a fresh baguette, eating as they walk. Traditionally the French eat baguette, croissant with jam and coffee for breakfast.
We always pre-book our trips to France. Safer in the long run as, unless you take a tent or camper van, you won't be without accommodation for the night. Pre-booking is definitely recommended if you;re heading for Paris. It is always full, although you may well find a B&B somewhere in the quieter areas. See Trip Advisor for advice about where to stay anywhere you may choose to go.
The choice is entirely yours, from package holidays, touring holidays, hotels stays and caravan and camping. If you choose your base wisely, you can see a lot of any country and personally I would want to be travelling some where in the region of at least 50 miles away form base to visit areas of interest. I would also suggest planning your stay before you go, especially if you have access to the internet at home. Once we arrive at our base, we usually pick up a handful of tourist brochures to read and make our choices from. This year we have a small itinerary put together already. We have 4 days catered for, so the other 6 will be a mystery until we get there.
What ever your chosen accommodation, what ever area you decide on, you can't go wrong if you choose France
