Memories - funny things are they not? they creep into ones mind and can make you both smile and perhaps shed a tear.
Whilst I was 'away' getting the comp fixed, was strange what my mind was wandering back to.
Today I'll just tell you a wee slice of life regarding my dog [whom is now in our years, 77] - this memory still makes me laugh to this day.
I used to always take in rescue dogs, usually two at a time, all ages, etc etc - but, when the last one passed, I decide to take a break from taking in rescue dogs, as it was heartbreaking as I adore animals and some I owned from previous owners had been so badly treated.
Thus, I went on the search for a pup, always wanted a lab, strangely, had a dream the night before I got her, the last dog I owned, giz, she was in the dream and she pionted me to a certain location, was very vivid - so, next day, with the dream still fresh in mind, I went to this location and to the animal shelter to find? a lab - just like in the dream, wandering around with her brothers and sisters there and I was drawn instantly to them and yes,
she chose me [I would if I could have done, taken her and her brothers and sisters home too, but money etc made that a complete no no] she was the one that was different from the others, there was something about her - so basically, she chose me and I fell for her and thats how we got together and are still together.
Okay, back to one of the outings I had with her. Now she must have been barely a year old and being a lab, adored water, so took her on a bus ride to our ponds, nice place, huge woodlands, two large lakes on one side, and several small 'ponds' on the other.
She was by the big pond and was most interest in a lone goose that was busy swimming, minding its own business - that is until my dog decided to wade in and say 'hi' -
She'd got a short way towards the goose, who by now had spotted her and didnt look very amused at this black thing coming towards it - it was only a matter of metres away from the 'shoreline' so not to far out - suddenly, peace was shattered, the goose flapped its wings in the water, my dog was about two metres away from it and boy, you have never seen a dog stop so suddenly and turn - so there was my pup, frantically doggy paddling back towards me, being chased by this rather pissed off goose - you had to have been there to see it.
Sooooo, I had one very soggy mutt looking pitiful at me and hiding behind me and this goose, hissed abit before turning and swimming right back towards the inner part of the lake - think my pup then learnt its not always good to be too curious.. so, to 'calm' her down [she recovered pretty quick, but kept looking back at the lake] we crossed through into the main woodland and she soon settled and began investigating.
We were getting close to another pond, very small, but very murky and I didnt like the look of it and didnt know the depth of it, so, for safetly, put her on leash to cross the little bridge over it - got to the other side and what did she do? thats right, go back onto the bridge and promptly fell off it into the water - then there was silence, my heart was going ten to the dozen with worry, was only minutes, but those minutes seemed like an eternity.
I was still panicking, no sign of her since she'd fallen in - and I wasnt sure what the heck to do, then what happens? she appeared - just stood up - the darn pond that was green and murky and looked deep - wasnt, was only about half a metre deep, so there was my pup, standing there, covered in muck wagging her tail and just looking at me - the relief was briliant and I just burst out laughing as she casually clambered out and promptly did the doggy thing of shaking all over you, making you just as wet.
So that was her first experience of water!
So, thats one lil memory a darn good one too and am honoured to own her and have her still by my side . xo
[wonder if there will be any squares or ??????in this today, guess soon see]
