I HATE red tape.
I HATE the FED
I HATE DSS

*************

Back in 1995 I adopted my youngest daughter. She was born with some birth defects and was receiving SSDI from her birth father's social security disability claim.

I was advised by DSS [who sponsored the adoption] to stick with the social security money because it paid out more per month than the adoption subsidy would. [I had no idea what an 'adoption subsidy' was at that time]

Yeah, um okay, whatever....
Congratulations on the adoption of your daughter!!
*****************************************
In 1997 the social security money stopped, they ran out of avaliable funds.
Nobody said "But Hey! Remember that 'adoption subsidy' money??
Um...No!
*****************************************
In Feb 2008 I applied for medicaid because my daughter needed extensive orthodontic work [braces, jaw surgery... which I could not afford]
She was approved and her case worker asked me if I got child support for my daughter, I sad "No, she's adopted."
She asked me if I got an adoption subsidy for her.
I said, "No. What's an adoption subsidy?"
She explained and advised me to get in touch with DSS in Boston, Massachusetts where the adoption took place back in 1995.
***********************************************
I have been talking with DSS in Boston since March 2008
Nice people who I believe owe me in excess of $110,000
They agreed to pay me from Feb to June 30  somewhere around $3,000
And to pay 'actively' starting in July 2008 to pay through her 22nd birthday.
I plan to sue them for the rest of it

What would you do?
Are there any lawyers in the house?
I'd enjoy reading any comments.
