| Night #2 |
Well it's after midnight here, 12:48pm to be exact and I just arrived home from a night out. I am still awake and not ready to sleep so I will enter a blog for my night #2 without the girls...........
That's right I am keeping up with it and I will do the 7 days even if I am asleep.....I will still type while I am asleep lol, just to keep the blogs coming :-)
Anyway so yes back to it, I came home from a friends house and had a lovely night, they are a great couple and always provide the upmost when it comes to hospitality.
I would just like to start with an interesting conversation I had with my friend about an Oprah show she caught during the week..
The main theme of the show was about teenagers having sexual intercourse, masturbation and when teens experiment with these.
So after explaining the show a little bit and discussing some interesting points my dear darling friend asks me,
"Kellie when do you think the appropriate age would be for teenagers to start exploring?"
Hmmmm.....Ok I thought, well I have a 10 year old so really don't have to start getting into that right now. And yes I have had the "birds and the bees" talk with her but that stuff would not be affecting her for a few good years yet.......I am very old fashioned but do know that this is going to occur at some stage.
But yes back to the main issue, I explained to my friend that I would be answering from a mothers point of view, but also what I believe "personally" to be the best age for teens to start exploring their so-called urges.
I reply, "I would expect teens to begin masturbation or exploring themselves at age 13 and sexual encounters I would think age 16-17".
My friend looks at me from the other end of the sofa with one eyebrow raised, "Really Kel? Because it seems that isn't the case". I will just point out that my friend has a 10 year old step daughter so she is just as involved and passionate about this topic as I am. She continued, "10 year olds are masturbating!" I nearly fall off the sofa, "And they are also having oral sex at 10, 11 even 12". I was completely blown away, I know it's going to be early, I'm not that traditional my ways, but I would think that maybe they would wait until their bodies are a little more developed than 10.
I found the hardest thing about this was coming home tonight and not being able to take my daughter in my arms and just hold her, not having to say anything but just holding her, letting her know through a hug that she was still my little girl, and still getting big warm hugs from her mum.
My friend also added that on the show parents were advised to speak to their children about this, as openess and the ability to speak freely can help young teenagers become aware of the dangers and the emotional affect exploring sexually can have on them.
I will just conclude that I am from Australia, so for some of you, this topic and episode would be old news, but as I found it informative and I guess a little disturbing at the same time it could make for a very interesting discussion.
Well there we go, another day gone and a new one just beginning, it is 1:32am in the morning and I should be getting to bed so enjoy and I will be back tomorrow, so goodnight and...................
