 The field across the street....
Ok I posted my thoughts about the flag next door, now about the field across the street.  It's about 100 acres I would guess...all farm land with hills and trees at the very back of it...sloping upward like a small mini mountain (as close to a mountain as your gonna get in Indiana).  The farmer lives 3 houses down, I have been here 8 years and only spoke to him once...that was to go ask if I could have permission to walk down the path in his field..the path that he drives his tractor down.  It's a nice little path when the crops are growing because you are totally hidden from view from the road...it's like walking down an isle of wonder when the corn is planted (every other year it's soybeans...that kinds stinks cause I'm not hidden...this year it's corn again hoooorayyyy!!)...

anyways....so you walk down this isle with swishing swaying corn stalks on both sides, I feel so absolutely isolated and alone....and I love it!  It is just me and the corn and the bugs and the birds.  if you stop and the wind is blowing at all .....the sound of the corn is just amazing!!!!  I could listen to it for hours.  there is a watering tank about half way down the field and so I will stop and lay down on it and just stare into the sky and listen to the noises of the field, or I'll turn on my side and watch the bugs crawling along the dirt tracks that the tractor has made in the grass.....it's one of the most wonderful things I can hold on to during the winter......the memories of the field...the sounds, the smells.....it gets to long in the winter time, I don't walk during winter because the wind is so cold off the field and you basically stand out like a sore thumb in the middle of it, then people slow down in thier cars wondering what kind of an idiot is staning out in the middle of a snow covered field in 20 degree weather......I don't need to expose my self like that thanks.

don't tell anyone....but during halloween.....I secretly go across the street and steal corn stalks from the field, I go in deep and cut at random places and put them into a pile then run them home when no cars are coming...it's the funnest thing!!!  It's kinda spooky being in the field at night..yet it's so exciting at the same time, I really wish he would plant corn every year darn it.

But for now, I go out every morning to get the paper and just stand at the side of the road and breathe in the chill
pulling deep into my being, letting it cleanse me I guess...I do love cold winter weather for that ..when you breathe in deep it feels so refreshing to my spirit...I'll stand and gaze across the land, lost in my own thoughts for a few minutes until a car starts coming down the road....or the kids start yelling out the door for me..then I'm back to the real world.....I think that's what helps me get thru alot of the days, just drifting off into my own little perfect place a few times a day, staying there for a few moments or minutes whichever I can grab...some days its in Florida with the beach and palm trees, and some days it's in the corn field by myself, and some days I just mentally go to a stream in a beautiful woods....I smile and imagine the sounds and smells...and it gets me by for a while.......you have to remember all the beauty even when the laundry needs folded, or the cat box needs cleaned.....just smile thru the smell and be thankful that your nose works so good!

Namaste

Wonderful descriptive post. Reading it I was transported right into that corn field with you. Spring will be here sooner than we think. Until then how nice that we have our daydreams and memories to warm our soul. Peace.
