The Dash
This is one of my favorite pieces of poetry.  I've read it countless times.  I'd like to share it with you.   It reminds me to make the best of everyday, be the best person I can be everyday, and give love and kindness, wherever I can everyday!

The Dash
By Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood
at a funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning to the end.

He noted that the first date was her birth,
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what matters most of all
was the dash between the years.

For the dash respresents
all the times she spent alive on earth,
and now only those that loved her
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars...the house...the cash,
what matters is how we live and love...
and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard;
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real...
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more,
and love the people in our lives...
like we've never loved before.

If we treat eachother with respect
and more often with a smile...
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read...
with your life's action's to rehash
would you be proud of what they say
about how you spent your dash?

I love this poem also. You can read it a 100 times and the powerful message comes through loud and clear each time.
-----------------------
A "Real" legacy is not something tangible - cash, stocks and bonds, real estate, art - or even a reputation that translates into status for our loved ones. Instead, a "Real" legacy is the example you set in life, which will be evident in the stories people tell about you long after you are gone. Taken From "The Velveteen Principles - A Guide To Becoming Real" By Toni Raiten-D'Antonio, Page 186

Peace

I will have to go get that, and read that one! Thank you Colorado! And you're right...it's about HOW you touch the souls around you that will determine how you will be remembered! You have already touched mine!

That poem has always touched me as well.
I want my dash to be filled with unconditional love. So far I'm happy with the dash, the best is yet to come.
Peace

Difficult Soul, Poetry has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life. I literally loose myself in it, and become one with the words. Please do add me to your bookmarks, it's only fair, since I added you to mine a while ago. (hee-hee) :)
p.s. I liked you first! God Bless
