Bhuwan Thapaliya: An international poet on the mak
Bhuwan Thapaliya: An international poet on the making from Nepal.

“Behold the spirit of poetry,
it never dies, nor does it ever grow old.
A real poem is the heartbeat of the humanity.”
--Bhuwan Thapaliya
By: Rohit Sharma

The above lines were not written by an English poet, but rather it is written by a Nepali poet and the verses such as these and innumerable others show the world, how a young lad from Nepal is making Nepal proud by writing splendid verses one after another.

Bhuwan Thapaliya is a Nepali poet writing in English and upon doing some online research on him, I found out that there didn’t seem to be a corner of the poetry that didn’t interest him. Judging by his poetries, it can be stated clearly that he never just wrote poetry, he lived it – rather he inhabited it – wrapping himself in the subject as if in a cashmere coat.

I have been following his writings since the last couple of years and he has always amazed me with his poetic diversity. Now after being familiar with his writings, I must confess that he is a true poet. He is a poet, you might say, who know precisely where he stands after analyzing his poems more closely. His poetries are very simple and easy to understand, there is not an iota of complexity in his poetries.

Poetry is everything for him. His love for poetry is absolute, which is exemplified furthermore by this statement of his which he made a couple of years ago in one of his poetry site.

“I live by this- traveling, exploring, discovering. Many young people were going into business and looking for ways to make money, but I wanted to remain a poet,” he wrote then.

This is what he has to say about poetry in his composition titled, “Grandeur of Poetry.”

It takes tons of time to compose an ounce of poetry
But when it is composed it surpasses the eternity
Its connotation like the four seasons of the earth
May change from time to time, its authenticity
Like the existence of the deity will be questioned
From time to time, its manifestation like the
Symphony of clouds will be misunderstood from
Time to time, but its universal consensus
Like the perpetual soul, will forever live on,
And its grandeur, like the countenance of the sun
Will forever shine on…will forever shine on.

But lately he must have realized that poetry is not enough for survival in a nation such as Nepal, so he tried his hands on journalism and in this venture too he is very successful. Today, Bhuwan is an Associate editor of The Global Politician (http://www.globalpolitician.com), an online journal, published from New York, America.

He lives in Nepal, but he edits an American paper. Isn’t this a source of pride and joy for all the Nepalese youths who are trying to shine the name of Nepal in their respective fields? And moreover hasn’t Bhuwan provided a source of courage to all those Nepalese youths who are frustrated by the political condition of Nepal and who often cites the state of nation for their personal stagnation.

May be they should learn more from people like Bhuwan, who has fought all odds to become a successful poet and a journalist, and that too of an international reputation. If Bhuwan can, then why can’t others meet their objectives if they try? After all, nothing is impossible.

Bhuwan is very patriotic and he loves his nation more than anything, which is revealed by this poem of his. Here is the poem, which is entitled, “Our Nepal, Our Pride.”

Our Nepal, Our Pride

Our heaven on Earth, Nepal, our Pride,
Our domicile of God is free as infinite
As the sun's portentous rays leading far and wide
Its celestial balm to all alike!
Earth has, believe me, so little to show fairer
Than this, our facsimile, inimitable paradise;
Illustrious as far as Milton's ranging rhymes,
Even to the Goddess it did add such delight
As manna slipped from the skirt of heaven
To eternalise our Earth, an inward and an outward sign,
Adding celestial sublime here to shine more
Than twilight on Earth, where Everest, ours, is
Heaven's stairwell for all Nepalese tribes alive!
All Hail, holy land, clear offspring of heaven,
From heaven not far off, yes, in precincts of light
Where even Gods with Goddesses dance
Hand-in-hand, from birthing dusk till dawn,
Eyes, theirs and ours, uplifted in amazing pride.

Upon doing research on him, I found out that he started writing poetries in the year 2003, and immediately he made a mark as a serious writer in the world of literature.

Today, he is regarded as one of the best emerging writer with a fan following all over the world.

He is the proud author of 1500 Poems. And most of his poetries are published on various journals, newspapers, CD’s, various online and offline journals and sites all over the world.

His biggest break as a poet came in the year 2004. In March 2004, Poetry Life and Times featured him in its cover. Read it here, Poetry Life and Times, Vallance Review, March 2004 : www.poetrylifeandtimes.com/valrevw31.html. This gave him an international fame and reputation.

His work has also been featured in anthologies such as The New Pleiades Anthology of Poetry =Le Florilège de la nouvelle Pléiade 2005.(© 2005 CDN ISBN 0-9737888-6-0, US ISBN 1-878431-52-8)Published by Describe Adonis Press in Canada (Ottawa, Ontario, Canadian ISBN 0-9737888-6-0) and by Kedco Studios in the United States (Las Vegas, Nevada, US ISBN 1-878431-52-8).

His first poetry CD, “Rhythm of the Heart,” was published by Rowe Publishing House, England, but unfortunately the press was closed down due to some internal strife’s amongst its founders.

His first poetry book, “Our Nepal, Our Pride,” was recently published by the Cyberwit.net, a publishing house in India. (http://www.cyberwit.net/bhuwan.htm).

If you want to delve further into his writing world and read some of his poetries, then follow this link. http://www.authorsden.com/bhuwanthapaliya.

I am sure you will like his poetries as much as I adore them. They are simply breathtaking.

Before leaving, let me have the pleasure of sharing one of his poems, which he dedicated to a farmer named ‘Mangaley.”
O’ true Son of the Soil, Mangaley!

Whole day in the field you toil
clad in hope, and spade compost
into the vegetable beds, lulled by
an ambrosia - the wine of your sweat.

You cling to the soil evermore, and
let the Sun dive in your body and bathe.
You dig the core of the Earth, on and on
and plant the seeds of unison to feed them all.

O’ Mangaley! O’ true Son of the Soil!

Master of your own destiny you are!
You are not an idle rainbow in the sky
nor you are a mere ghost in disguise.
You are a poem in my eyes.

O’ Mangaley! The waltz of your hoe
emancipates the soul of the soil
- gives birth to the green tomorrow
and every stroke from your spade
adds ghee to the lantern of their faith.

O’ Mangaley! O’ true Son of the Soil!
You toil hard everyday to garden this earth
and teach them all to fight with poverty and loss,
and live life in unity and in peace among men.

O’ Mangaley!
May you blossom for ever!
We feel you, - in every grain,
in every inch of the soil
in every murmuring brooks
and in every fold of the cabbage
in the village of “Baluwa.”

O’ Mangaley! O’ true Son of the Soil!
I bow before you, and salute both- the soil and you.
