 Why pain is good

I had a headache this morning and as I took some Panadol to shift the dull throbbing from inside my temples, I got to thinking about painkillers: I realised that I don’t really want to KILL the pain, I just want to make it go away.

It’s kinda like Jehovah’s witnesses, they’re annoying and they give you a headache, but you just want to make them shove off your doorstep, not kill them. (Especially the ones that drag their kids along all dressed up in their party frocks as they make the rounds of my neighbourhood. That’s called manipulating me into not abusing you in front of your child...)

Pain is a good thing to have, it lets us know when we’re hurting- like when you stub your toe: Pain tells you that you’ve been an idiot, and suggests that perhaps next time, how bout looking where the leg of the chair is before putting your toes in its vicinity?

The little toe is the most vulnerable of the toes, just waiting to get hooked around things like doorways and chairs. And you don’t know that poor little toe has been hooked until the rest of your body has started to move in the opposite direction. That’s when pain really kicks in and tells you to come back 3 steps to retrieve little toe.

Sore toes (not mine!)

pain is good? yeah, I see you're point, but what about heartbreak? that's the worst kind of pain.

hmmmm, I'm talking about physical kind of pain that your body produces as a reaction to something you've done to it, not the mental type of pain that causes a broken heart :)

No, thank you very much. I don't want any type of pain. But I get what you mean, I heard that some people born without able to feel physical pain at all. It is scary because a child with this condition cannot see/feel any danger, and can hurt himself badly without knowing.

All kinds of pain have lessons, it is we who decide to go to school or not. Enjoyable read there :)
