AM:
Today is the third time in about 3 months that I’ve attempted to go to the beach and it’s rained. Not just your ordinary expected weather-forecasted rain, but torrential downpours, best-rain-we’ve-had-in-years with no warning type rain. My hubby and I were joking that the weather “knew” I was planning on heading to the beach, so this time I tried keeping it a secret and was saying crazy stuff like “When I DON’T go to the beach this weekend...” & “Seeing as I’m NOT going to the beach this weekend..” etc. It was working too- yesterday was scorching hot and humid, bright sunshine = perfect beach weather. I was getting excited, especially because the beach is about an hour's drive from home and I get there only about 3 times a year.
Then, at precisely 2am this morning, the rains came - Complete with unseasonal night-time thunder storm. This rain was so vicious that it was pouring in horizontally at my bedroom window, beating the panes with its wet and clammy fingers, mocking me and my pathetic human dreams of having a fun day at the beach.
But this time I’m determined to go. You never know, that giant, slow-moving storm cell over the Sunshine Coast may drift out to sea by the time I get there.....
Guess I’ll find out...
PM:
Well I’m back from my day at the beach with my sister and it was great! We got to Caloundra about 9:30am (still raining by the way) only to discover there was a junior lifesaving championship happening at the very beach we had chosen. There was a cast of thousands there! Not to worry, we’ll go for a walk into town and maybe check out a movie. Rocked up to the box office at 10am wanting to see “Bee Movie” which had started at 9:45am (surely the movie couldn’t have started yet? What about all the ads and previews!?). Alas, the movie had indeed begun 15 minutes into the scheduled session time – they’re really precise up here!
So we walked around the shops for an hour or so and returned to see Bee Movie, which I loved! My sister and I were the only adults there without half a dozen kids in tow. We were laughing more than the kids, haha. Then out into the unexpected sunshine and heat in time for a relaxing swim J in the cool ocean. It was bliss. This was followed up by a late lunch and a beer. I could get used to this lifestyle....
And Then?
Home again, home again, jiggety jig.
Here's a photo of Kings Beach, Caloundra in sunny Queensland: beautiful one day, perfect the next.
Glad we perservered and went to the beach!
