My dog’s got this crusty, itchy skin thing happening at the moment. I took him to the vet today and found out he’s got a yeast infection. A yeast infection? How the hell does a dog get a yeast infection? He doesn’t even have a vagina!
So now we have to bath him like twice a week with this expensive shampoo for dogs with sensitive skin. His diet has to be changed to some (predictably) equally expensive food instead of the regular cheap ol’ dog food from the supermarket.
I always seem to get the pets that have the issues! My parent’s cat (that I picked out when I was 12) is allergic to fish and any type of dairy products. My own cat also has these allergies and can’t have any type of tinned food or she throws up on my floors. Now this allergy wouldn’t be a hassle if she didn’t constantly sneak into the other cat’s room and eat his tinned food (yes, they each have their own rooms....c’mon, I don’t have kids! What else am I going to put in the other bedrooms of my house?!) lol.
I take care of my pets, feeding them diligently, walking/bathing/grooming them, taking them for regular vet checks and as far as I can tell, they’re very happy living with me – well at least the cats come home every night... Maybe they’re just using me as a ‘bed and breakfast’ until they can find other more suitable accommodation...
Meanwhile, there’s some people who don’t give a flying luck about their pets or its wellbeing and yet never seem to have any allergy issues with their pets!
Apparently the skin thing in my dog could be caused be any of the following: food, grass, pollen, leaves, fleas, dust, dirt, insects, a change in his environment.....basically anything that a dog having a normal day will come into contact with.
So $90 later, I left the vet with 2 types of tablets and some special oil to pour over his food and detailed instructions about changing his food.
Just gotta remember to keep chanting : I love my pets...I love my pets...I love my pets....

keep chanting hon
nods, they can pick up yeast infections easily, my dog has it too at times, but, regular cleaning of the area [her neck] with saline and then clean with surgical spirit - although, depends on the dog/animal and, to whether the area is weepy..otherrwise, aye, it is expensive, but, that shampoo does help and also, buy cheap cod liver oil and green lipped mussel, thats [for humans] good too to give, it helps.
lil chuckle, had many recues animals with every ailment under the sun, but, you still love them..soft smile and hug
hope your pooch feels abit better ssoon

Some breeds of dogs are more susceptible to skin condition than the others. My dog had crusty, itchy skin once. I did't take him to a vet, but I just bought Flee Ban from the super market, the one that you squirt on the dog's neck. I couldn't see any flees, but I just tried it anyway. And... it worked. So until today, I always treat my dog with Flee Ban (or other similar brand), and he's never itchy scratchy anymore.....Do you believe that dogs or cats can suffer from diabetes? Those with diabetes are more prone to yeast infection, just like human. Well, I hope your dog will get better soon....

Hello it's me again! I made spelling mistakes. It is FLEA (Flea Ban), not flee. How silly of me! Sorry about that...

When I had my Black Lab, he had kinda the same deal as your puppy. I was told to put veggie oil in with his food. Not only will it help with the skin but it will help with the coat, making it all nice & shiny.
As for my cat, she too can't have canned food or dairy either otherwise she throws up like a drunken fool. It's horrid. Ewww.
Hope things get better for thy pets.
