Learning to tattoo - an update

Well technically it's day 3 into my tattoo course and I'm yet to even see the course!

(For those not up to date, I've decided to challenge myself and have a go at learning to tattoo. Why? Because it would allow me to combine some things I've always loved namely: tattoos, and art/drawing. Depending on how things go, down the track I might do it professionally, but that's a long way off yet!)

Anyway, because I work full time and have a mortgage, it wouldn't be possible for me to drop everything and take up a low-paying (or mabybe no-paying) apprenticeship to learn how to tattoo. So I've found an online video course that promises to teach you everything you need to know.

Now, I'm not so naive as to think that by watching a few videos I'll be fully qualified to jam ink into someone's skin! After the course, I'm planning on asking around a few tattoo shops nearby and seeing if they'll let me observe/learn/help in my spare time so that I can build up the skills and knowledge on top of everything else I'm reading/studying.

(If anyone reading this is a tattoo artist or apprentice, I'd love to hear any advice you have to offer me about getting started!)

Now, about the course: it's supposed to be running online for 6 months and is a set of videos that are uploaded every few weeks so you can work through them at your own pace. Great! I thought. "Where do I sign up?" (Esepecially at the introductory rate of only $47 instead of $147!)

So I signed up and got a couple of emails back about my payment and then......nothing.
The day the course was meant to start? Still.....nothing.
So I phoned the shop running the course (they're conveniently on the other side of town from me) and at first ithe phoneline was engaged, then....no answer.
I called the mobile phone number provided, left a message to call me back,  but.....no reply.

I was beginning to think I'd been sucked in as part of a scam to get $47 off me, which doesn't sound like much, but multiply that by the other unknown quantities of people paying up too and you've probably got yourself a nice little scam.

I then sent 2 emails asking where oh where was the course, and.....A REPLY!! Finally!

Turns out the course website wasn't quite ready for their big opening day, not that they told anyone.
Eventually, I was able to view the website that was under construction and I had to signup/register my account so the site operators could confirm I've paid and grant me access.

Then it told me I'll have to wait 24hrs for my account to be verified! Meanwhile, I'm champing at the bit to get started!

So, fingers and toes I'll have my account up and running by tonight and that I can finally sink my teeth into something!

Happy days,
kaos.

If you learn to do tattoos online, it will be more of the theory, I'm curious on how you will actually practise it? Even though I'm not into tattoo, I admit it is an amazing art with a long way back history....

Gwatlan, to practice you can use pieces of purpose-made rubber type stuff that resembles real skin. You can also buy pig skin from a butcher's cos pig skin is like humans.

I have a good idea, maybe later on you just buy a cute little piglet for a pet and you can do beautiful and colourful tattoos on it. Isn't great to see a pig with a tattoos? He, he, he.....

Babe?......... Babe?.......... Anyone seen Babe can't find him. That'll do pig, that'll do......

Sorry couldn't help myself

Good luck with the course.

Best of luck with the courses. A buddy of mine started off with videos to learn tattooing a number of years ago and has become rather talented at the artform now.
