 Grafiti - what's the point?

I hate it when people touting themselves as so-called graffiti ‘artists’ insist on putting their ‘tags’ on everything that isn’t theirs. They are NOT artists, and they are not appreciated - they are merely putting random shite that looks like scribble done by a 2 year old onto property that isn’t theirs.

Just because people can’t understand what you’ve written does not make you an artist!

I bet if these pricks asked the poor sods who own the structures that they insist on spewing forth their vomitus onto via a spray-can what they thought about the graffiti, the owners wouldn’t be too impressed with the results. (Sorry re the long sentence there :)

Maybe we, the law-abiding public with a sense of common decency and courtesy should put our own ‘art’ on the property belonging to these grubs? My mum does folk art painting, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind whipping up a few gerbera flowers with some dainty embellishments around it to put on their walls, cars and fences. I know what would look better than the illegible dribble all over the place...

There are a handful of people out there who are actually talented and who use a spray can more effectively than I can use a pencil. I’m actually ok with the interesting and colourful scenes they come up with- it gives me something to look at as I take the train to work.

But the 12 to 17 year olds who do nothing more than write their names/alter-egos all over the place- these are the ones I want to squash like a mosquito under my thumb!
Keep practising on paper kids, it'll save you lots of time and money in the long run (if you aren't stealing the paint in the first place) when you realise you ain't got jack shit talent!

i always wanted to open a place where kids can skate, and have an arcade, a stage where kids in high school who have their own band could play and make it totally under 21.. and it would be a complete concrete facing so the kids could tag the hell out of it as long as it's not offensive. i think it would be the coolest place for kids.. the trouble is there is nothing for kids to do! so they resort to trouble... i always drew and painted on the walls and my mom always complimented it! and now i go to school for graphic design.. i believe she helped me in that be so encouraging.

Nice post chick, I agree, some of it is really art, but those peeps seem to have respect for where they are putting it, those little punks could care less...
