 Even more funny sayings

Better late than never: Well, if something’s late, it’s kinda missed its opportunity for being useful and may as well never have appeared at all. But, then on the other hand, some things are better off never appearing at all (ie. Never) rather than just being late, like bills in the mail!!
The rabbit in Alice in Wonderland said “I’m late for a very important date!” now do you really think his date, from whatever burrow she may belong to would be impressed that her rabbit was running late? Methinks no. So he might as well saved himself some crazed running around and not gone along at all. Jessica Rabbit had probably already met Roger anyway...

You can do anything if you just put your mind to it: No you can’t. If everyone could do anything, we’d all be doing it! I’m not trying to discourage people from trying though, but they have to be realistic in the goals they’re setting for themselves: A person who is tone-deaf and ugly is not going to be able to release an album, actually, wait, Yes they can! Paris Hilton did just that and she can’t sing for shite! And she’s ugly...

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water:
Is this phrase part of a government educational campaign about how to be a good parent? Perhaps some helpful tips for first time mums and dads? They might also want to include in their campaign: don’t bath baby using the washing machine, don’t dry baby using a tumble dry and don’t let baby drive. All blatantly obvious tips, but somewhere, some idiot must have thrown out a baby along with the water from the bath, otherwise how else would such a bizarre term of phrase originate?

Bob’s your uncle:
No he’s not. I don’t have an Uncle Bob, but I’m sure many other people do. This phrase means something along the lines of “all will be well.” Why not just say “All will be well” if that’s what you mean? Who is BOB and how could Bob, by simply  being my Uncle make everything ok? What if Uncle Bob is a serial killer!? That’s not going to make everything fine in my books!

To Make a bee-line:
This phrase means to go directly towards something. Now when I watch bees (yes, I have that much spare time!) they don’t really appear to be flying DIRECTLY towards anything and they’re certainly not in a LINE. They tend to just hover above, beside and below their desired flower before eventually landing on it. You can hardly call that a direct method of travel. And when they’re in a group, bees are not in a Bee- LINE, it’s more of a Bee-CLOUD. So bees are getting all the credit in the insect world for making bee- lines to travel straight towards something. I think this is wrong. I tell you a creature that DOES move in lines? Ants. I hate ants with a passion, but they’re certainly getting my kudos over the bees for travelling in orderly lines.
