hey kaos!
cut some slack!
art has a lot of definitions and expressing oneself can take many forms! just because it's wierd or unusual or because you or i don't get it, doesn't mean it's not 'expressive' and 'creative'.
you're right, the prices are impressive though!

Hey Bdsm,
I can appreciate art that has actually required talent and vision to create, whether it be painting, sculpture or installations or whatever.
What I don't like is people getting government grants under the pretence of being an artist which they then use to fritter away on crap they try and pass off as art. There was a girl in Brisbane a couple of years ago who used government funds to acquire a $10000 piano, and then destroyed it by dropping it from a height. What's the point in that?
That's the type of mindless attention-seeking that I find difficult to justify or even classify as art.

...you're right! maybe it was a liberation from childhood memories and so intended as therapy and not art at all.
